  • That's the loss we needed

Even though we got the two points it still felt like a loss. Big wake up call. The boys will come out firing next week.

Felt like a win to me, maybe not that convincing, but a win.

I think we'll lose to Manly which will be the loss where meant to have.

I'd give RTS a spell for that game and freshen him up for the run home.

It was as if we didn't care. Summary:

          1) First half we just tossed the pie around arrogantly assuming Parra are a rubbish team who we will beat.
          2) Our whole game plan was to run scared and fear Radaradra. Elliot got punted and we tried some weird ad-hoc plan aimed at matching his size rather than out-playing his team. He's good but he's no Fergo, Jenning, Tupou or RTS. Parra shoulda been running scared from our outside backs rather than vice versa. World class backline... intimidation factor nil.
          3) Second half we switched on and played a nice conservative game with big men hitting it down the centre and halves/backs finding holes. Simple but it worked.

IMO we often forget the basics whereas that's all teams like Parra and Cronulla know. Therefore, when we are hit with a good old game of footy we choke. I sometimes feel like it's a spelling bee. We've studied all the 9+ letter words while failing to revise the 5 letter words. Cronulla and Parra know all their 5 letter words and keep asking us how to spell them... we forget, feel superior because our study was 'harder' and fail because we let them set the challenges.

            You do have a point,

            BUT

I think Robbo is looking at how he can keep all his best payer's on the field come finals.

When we get Moa back, he is thinking who would miss out so he has a plan.

This is also prep for next year as I thing Moubs will play center.

            Just my take on things.

Aubo on the wing had nothing to do with the Finals. It was a poor decision.

Yeah bizarre plan, it didn't work and that right edge looked impotent all night in both attack and defence. I hope Robbo doesn't go with this set up against the Broncs else they'll tear us apart.

                Chook.

Maubs to the wing/centre was totally strategic. The coaches wanted to see how it played-out in the event of SKD not returning and Elliot struggling (which he isn't) during finals time. Para were the perfect opposition due to ladder position, proximity to the finals and it being an Easts home game.

The experiment was successful. Now we know what the deficiencies are should such an event occur (so the staff can work on remedying that), and we still took the points.

                    We are certainly not peaking.
That's a good thing cause it's too early.
Playing average and still winning. That's the sign of a good side.

I don't think it's real strategic to weaken 33% of our defensive line on a plan that clearly doesn't work and would need more than a week to remedy.

                      Chook.

Try that shit out at training. Not a month out from finals. We should be fine tuning now, not experimenting.

                          Just a theory.

Could be as simple as him wanting Maubs and Fergo to finish the season in this structure, but I can't see how that is best for the team. I mean, either we have Aubo on the Wing (and he isn't a Winger), or we have him at Centre with Fergo at Wing, which does make some sense but in fact truly weakens the team by putting our best Centre at Wing. Go figure…

If anything it's probably the win we didn't need to have.

Arrogance isn't a bad thing but it still needs to be balanced with the right amount of humility. After coming from behind so easily the arrogrance might be a littler higher than it should be. We can't do that against every side, we can't even continue to do it against poorer sides cause we'll get caught out eventually.

At the end of the day though who knows what lessons the players took out of that game, hopefully they were just a little bit scared at half time.
