  • Evil Gnome Murdoch is Cranky as Hell

Says Fox has always preferred AFL. Sounds pretty desperate to me and is trying his bullying tactics again. Look at the picture of the man that accompanies the article below. The stuff of nightmares.

I say sell the rights to Netflix or some other online provider. I've never subscribed to his archaic, advertisement ridden cable TV service and never will. I doubt Foxtel will survive without NRL.

He is a miserable, miserable man.

He is backing the right horse at the moment though.

In keeping with my policy of not getting sued for slander or libel, I will say that I am not a fan of Mr. Murdoch but I seriously doubt he cares if I exist or not.

I'm far from a fan. However, he'll find a way to come out on top.

Yes, just to clarify, I was merely pointing out that his physical appearance reminded me of an evil gnome. As he claimed in the UK, all the truly evil things his newspapers did there may have been done without his knowledge.

So, in summary, I withdraw any suggestion that Rupert Murdoch is evil. It is just that evil seems to have tainted some of his business interests.

I wonder if Stan or Netflix will bid for the rights. I can't wait till I cancel my foxtel subscription.

Great thread 66. This is a shocker.

Rupert is acting the jilted lover and all his little bully soldiers are falling into line.

The Telegraph today has gone full frontal attack on it.

How about this for an opening line:

"The AFL has kicked rugby league out of the water. In the richest television deal in the country's history, the AFL will get $2 million per game from 2017, while the NRL is battl8ng to get $1.7 million per match in still-to-be-completed negotiations,"

This is going to be a return of News doing all they can to bash the hell out of the game. Which is ironic because the Tele would lose at least half their readers without it.

On Fox Sports News they even had a quote from Kent saying that the NRL deal was a "joke" - though whether or not he actually said that is up for debate.

Do they think we are all idiots?

And that "we always preferred AFL garbage" is an insult to every league fan.

Foxtel has to have NRL to survive. No doubt. Especially with so many other digital options. I think that they would lose most of their NSW and QLD viewers without it.

Almost makes me want Nine to play all games live (even if they also put some on Gem) and tell Fox to fuuck off.

As I mentioned on another thread, google have made, or are in the process of making, a massive bid.

Murdoch ripped off the game for years, bollocks to him.

I'm definitely cancelling my two outlets of Foxtel after this season, and even though I'm not a great fan of channel 9 , its ally cheaper to get a season pass with the NRL and watch games on smart TV, phone, tablet etc....
League was the only reason I subscribe to Foxtel and now so pissed off that if they prefer AFL then let's see how many top rating programs they get without the league games.
I hope mr smith & co have the balls not to give the rights to Foxtel unless they match the AFL deal.

The only time my TV is on these day's is to watch the Footy.

                        Foxtel's years are numbered.

TV experts & other media outlets know that if FOX loses the NRL then they will take a huge hit. More damage than the AFL can hope to have. It's already shown that there is a significant drop in viewer subscriptions in the off season. Most of the new AFL deal is being paid for by channel 7& is a joint deal with FOX & Telstra. But that includes the right to broadcast every game & for 6 years. The NRL deal only includes channel 9 at the moment & that's for only 4 games a week for 5 years.. The other media rights (pay tv, streaming) have yet to be sold. So personally the only reason I can see Murdoch bitching is that he has to pay more for the better game or risk losing subscribers & money.
Mr Smith said that, while the initial focus had been on free to air rights, the NRL had already held extensive discussions with a number of operators involved in pay television and streaming rights.
“The digital media market is changing rapidly and it is our view that new and exciting opportunities will develop with Fox Sports and other providers,” he said.
“By 2018, the digital world will be very different and we want to be in the best possible position to take advantage of any changes.
“So negotiations with the pay tv and digital providers will continue and, again, our focus will be on ensuring the most widespread coverage on whatever platform fans choose to watch rugby league.”

Who really cares what Murdoch's reaction is.
The bottom line is that with more games offered than the AFL plus the diamond of any sport in Australia in the State Of Origin, if the NRL can't get a bigger broadcasting deal than the AFL then Smith and all of his lackies should resign.
They came out last week beating their chests with the deal they got only to be kicked back under their rock yesterday by the AFL yet again.
IMO Channel 9 seems to have bent them over yet again and nobody can convince me that part of the deal is that the NRL will control the scheduling of games. Total BS.
Well done to the AFL. They always show the NRL up with everything they do from broadcasting rights, the fans, the clubs and players and right through to the juniors all over the country.
Yet the NRL have always had duds in the management hierarchy and to top it off the dumb fcuks employ barge arse richo to set the direction of the game. FM.

This is what I did after the phone-hacking scandal. Never looked back and have saved over $500 this year.
