  • NRL's Roosters reveal pact on JWH

After the devastating news of Jared Waerea-Hargreaves' season-ending knee problem sank in, Sydney Roosters forwards met as a group and vowed the injury wouldn't be a death knell to the club's NRL title hopes.

In their first match without Waerea-Hargreaves the Roosters forwards barely missed a beat in dominating Manly up front in the Tricolours' biggest ever win at Brookvale Oval: 46-10 on Friday.

Ahead of their final round match against arch-rivals South Sydney, star rookie back-rower Siosiua Taukeiaho revealed the Roosters forwards' had made a pact with one another in the absence of Waerea-Hargreaves.

"Once we found out it was an ACL injury, we came together and said 'Jared is gone now for the season and we have to put our front foot forward and step up for the team', and that has been shown," Taukeiaho said.

"(Dylan) Napa has been playing great footy and it is great to have Sam Moa back too.

"We all know we have a responsibility now.

"Losing Jared, one of our top players and the one that leads the forwards is a big loss.

"But it is an opportunity for me and Napa and Sam Moa to step up and lead the forward pack and our team."

Taukeiaho said NSW back-rower Boyd Cordner, who won the Roosters' players' player award in the win over Manly, had noticeably stepped up his efforts after the loss of Waerea-Hargreaves.

"Boyd is still young but he is one of the leaders in our team in the preparation he does and he turns up every game," he said.

    "It's incredible."

Mitchell Pearce is also sidelined until at least week one of the finals and Taukeiaho said Jackson Hastings was another youngster in the side who had shown the ability to step up and accept further responsibility when needed.

Jarred is the enforcer and leader of our forward pack but I often find that tactically it is Sam "Victa" Moa who is the leader of the forward pack by making lots of first tackle runs and setting up the momentum for the set of six so it does allow somebody else such as Dylan Napa to step up and feed off the work of our other star front row forward. I thought it was ludicrous that Paul "Fatty" Vautin didn't think that Dylan Napa or Kane Evans were good enough to step up to the challenge.

lets be real about our pack and put the JWH emotion aside:

Moa is a gun and although he went a bit quiet earlier this year, he is back and every other team would love to have him.

Che/Cords are two of the best line runners, and their work rate has picked up.

Friendy will play for Qld/Aus when Smith leaves.

          Maubs is the ultimate proffesional.

Liu would be up there in terms of salary vs value.

The Undertaker and Napalm would scare the stuffing out of Bruce Lee.

and SST scares everyone who has ever lived.

They will get it done for us, it is a great mix of hard work, power, good ball running, and good steps before the line.

Have we ever had a better pack?

Sharks fans reckon they have the best pack in the comp. I can't wait to dispel that myth when it matters most.

The 2103 pack(SBW, LOD) was awesome, experienced and well balanced albeit with FPN who was more miss than hit. I'd prefer Hastings to Mortimer though.

Almost 100 yrs after the 2013 GF, and we still didn't learn our lesson on signing another FPN!

Would love to be around to see sbw's great great grandson play though.

What? You don't miss Frank Paul?

Regarding Boyd, I noticed Gus had him on his shortlist for second rower of the year, but opted for Sia Soliola as the best in the NRL.

...I'm sorry... I'll read that again...

                    Sia Soliola...

Soliola has been great for the Raiders, not sure if he's been better than Cordner this year but there hasn't been much in it and good to see Sia getting some recognition.

He was a good Rooster in his day too. But seriously, would you swap Boyd for him? Would Ricky Stuart?

How about Matagi? He has not let the team down whenever called upon. It's a shame he's leaving but he knew he had too many in front of him for a first grade position, and he deserves a first grade spot at Penrith.
