  • Cordner to play out season with painkilling injections

BOYD Cordner will be forced to play out the season with painkilling injections after picking up a hip pointer injury against the Storm on Friday night. The NSW backrower sustained the injury late in the first half, but managed to play out the full 80 minutes of the 20-18 loss to Melbourne at Allianz Stadium.
He is considered a certain starter for Friday’s finals clash against the Bulldogs, but would be no chance without a needle.
Teammate Mitchell Pearce returned to training on the weekend and is “hopeful” of being fit for the sudden death match.

The Roosters plan to push Pearce’s hamstring early in the week with a view on getting an indication on how he is positioned for Friday night.
Pearce has been borrowing the Swans’ non-weight Alter-G running machine in his effort to get back on the park.

We spent too much energy on a meaningless winning streak.

Winning 15 in a row was never going to happen. I remember the Broncos lost to Manly by 30 about 6 weeks ago. Bennett packed it in basically but he knew what he was doing.

The Broncos finished the season 2-4. Us 6-0 like last year. But what good has it done us? Other than to burn needless energy. Benny however gave his boys much needed downtime where as we have been up for far too long.

I think back to 2013 when we lost B2B to the Sharks and Titans with awful performances in rnd 25 and 26. But it was much needed down time and allowed us to reset.

Unfortunately our runs the past two years have been very poorly timed in contrast.

But its not over yet. Although Dogs and Broncs B2B looks ridiculously tough. No one to blame but ourselves.

there is a big debate in the AFL at the moment about the merits of resting players leading into the finals, will be interesting to see how the rest of the AFL season plays out but after the first week of the finals the Dockers/Nth Melbourne who both rested half their team in the last round both won their opening finals.

given that trends in sport often cross codes I wonder how long before teams in the NRL start resting players heading into the finals.

Without JHW I don't see how we've got the muscle to play with finals intensity for 3 straight matches. Barring injuries in other team's rosters, I just can't see it happening.

How on earth does losing offer the team "down time" and without that meaningless 12 match winning streak we may not have made the top 4.

                Agree.

And also, would we have lost many of those games if we had rested players, you can only play What's in font of you, and if those teams are rubbish, are we meant to just let them win to not go on a streak?

The secondary cap restrictions would not allow us to rest a bunch of players at once, and with pearce and jwh already injured, we would of struggled to bring up even more players.

Friends pass injured pearce, not the winning streak.

I'm a big believer in sport psychology. And Ricko came out and said the same thing today - that we needed a loss as you can't stay up for that long.

I would have just preferred it to have been a couple of weeks ago when it wouldn't have mattered.

Pretty sure we won about 10 in a row when we won in 2002.

It wouldn't have hurt us and besides, it would have given you and a few others on here another week to declare our season dead and burried after another loss. 😜😜

We would have won that game with a bit of luck - and an unbiased ref.
