  • Hastings

I stand by my view that the U20s is a pretty useless competition and I can't get too excited about anything that a player does in that comp.
The NSW cup and even the Ron Massey comp are a better place to judge a players ability.

But all that is irrelevant when it comes to Jackson Hastings, this kid is now producing some very good first grade football.
In the last two games he has give a kicking lesson to Maloney and Pearce.

    This is good.

Hasting's kicking tonight was awesome. He's really matured so fast and playing final footy. Incredible!!

And if faux ju comes back he'll go to the bench. I would not drop him if I were coach.

Pearce is on a hiding to nothing if we lose next week. He will get smashed on here.
I would be confident going with Hastings but that is not going to happen if Pearce is fit...and nor should it. He is our halfback. Mind you I hope they do not play him if he is not near 100%.

Just think about what these games are doing for Hastings in regards to next year.

Hastings was in favour of Pearce coming back next week, calling him the leader and sounding like a very mature young man who has defied the image given of him as an arrogant player with as attitude problem.

Hastings kicking game was pretty crap last week apart from the SKD try. Good kicking game tonight.

Pearce the better long kicker. Hastings the better short kicker.

So your saying Pearce in for McIllwrick on the bench?

Hastings was very impressive again, hard not to get excited slightly about next year. Thought Jimmy was back to his usual high standard too tonight, just stuck to his game and let Hastings run the show a little bit more. 2 linebreaks for Jimmy, one a supporting run for Hastings the other a show and go, that's when you know Jimmy is in his zone. Good signs moving on to Brisbane next week.

Still lots of signs we're missing Pearce though, we really struggle to construct sets in good ball zone and we turned over a lot of cheap possession tonight largely because we just didn't know what or where we were going with it. He'll be welcomed back with open arms.

I heard it live and was left overwhelmed at his maturity and level-headedness.

13yearold must have egg all over his face after his constant slagging of him early in the season.

I reckon we'll be even stronger with both Pearce and SOH in the 17.

Our forwards can play big minutes. Napa ran/tackled hard for approximately 35 minutes straight tonight.

Even if Pearce does go down, a 3 man bench shouldn't be an issue.

MciIwrick finally got a run with 10 odd to go and the game was in the bag.

Look, SOH has been great for us the last few weeks. His composure and short kicking game have been exceptional. But, Juniors long kicks and his hang time on bombs are essential against drongos and breeze. Also his runnng game is far superior to Hasting at this stage. Next year SOH at 7 and Juniir at 6 will be s great halves combo. But TIT.
