I just found this thread ........
I've had a lot of fun on here over the years.
I truly don't hate anyone or anything here or hold any grudges.
I've given and I've received.
The wall was so much fun in the old days, I used to laugh out loud when writing crap under different personas at times. It was a golden era.
Now it's not as much fun unfortunately.
I used to like antagonising people with strong opinions.
But we've all just grown up.........we've all mellowed out.
I'm still fond of all my friends and enemies.....except Tom Verlaines ghost hates me......that's fine if I knew who the f he is? Seriously!! Don't even remember fighting with him. Crickey, over the years the Brain and the ghost were going to kill me at the leagues club one night. johnnie Tobin hated me for years then we sorted it out. He is genuinely a very funny guy and his writing on times in here doesn't always reflect that. Chook hated and abused me for two years striaight! Then we've gone into the mad rooster hate stage.......that has simmered and I seem him as being the stirrer that he is. At least he is colourful!
It's the beauty of the net, and like all things the beauty has started to fade with age as censorship reigns.
I still can't work out why the thread on Fergo using English as a second language has been banned. It could have turned into something great.barbarian ......arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!!!!!!!

I suggest that this forum is useless in its current state.
Something like Reddit? IMO reddit is where all the kids go these days. Not hating on youngsters but it's a totally different vibe. The whole focus is on dominating discussion with LOTS of low-quality posts, obeying the subreddit rules (THINGS LIKE ALL SLEDGING IS IN CAPITALS OR YOU GET DOWNVOTED) and ganging up on people with minority opinions. To me it feels like you're in primary school again, competing for popularity and trying to be in the 'it' group instead of just having the odd rant once or twice a week.
Twitter and Facebook? I find Facebook is where the BEST quality discussion goes on because it's with my mates. I also have a whatsapp chat about footy where ~6 mates essentially just sledge each other and ramble about sports.
Twitter? I think is more for breaking headlines, rumours and celebrity gossip. Not a fan. Although, I use it for following a few IT nerds because they often use it to share tips about getting their software to work properly, and provide news about when updates will happen (with more technical details about what they're working on...etc.) I find it good for that, but not for discussion.
So the forum? I think forums will always have issues, but I think forums are the best for slower, higher quality discussion. While some members are less active here these days, compare this to reddit. There's far more knowledge/experience floating around here, without all the kiddies trying to get their upvote karma by saying what will be 'popular' (amongst a bunch of kids... which is usually rubbish.) I have a few other forums that I frequent. Most have died a little but are still solid go-to places. For example, I used to be a mod on a Mac Emulation forum... it's now more of a general retro gaming, emulation and technical discussion forum now and has maybe 5 posts a month. However, the quality of posts is awesome - most of the guys there know their stuff and can give tips on trying to modify/compile the code for random emulators... whereas a reddit equivalent would be like 'ZOOOOMFG YOU FOOL!!! THERE'S AN XBOX 360 EMU OUT NOW, GET WITH THE TIMES!!! YOU DON'T NEED A SNES EMULATOR!!' That post would get like 40 upvotes whereas a developer making a highly technical post would get shunted to the bottom because nobody would understand it. IMO forums definitely have their place and I'm glad that my favourites are still kicking.
Moderation? I never like moderation unless there is spam (e.g. one guy taking over every thread with a point that has already been made) or legally sensitive material (e.g. people saying we should all go and harass doughnut boy, while doxing the guy and starting a witch hunt.) TBH I'm not actually clear who the mods are on here, so they don't interfere THAT much. IMO the problem with banning legit contributors (who have the occasional emotional spill) is that you create spam. These people want to come back but can't use their main account... so whadda you do? Create another one! IMO for this reason banning has never worked anywhere online... IPs can change regularly (even more often on a mobile phone that floats between towers and WiFi access points) so you can't IP ban people effectively. My general comment is that actoss all mediums, bans don't do a lot except force mods into a constant game of cat and mouse. Better to let people post but moderate certain content in my view.Last edited by ism22; 05-21-2016, 11:43 AM.

Is it me or have the bannings become a lot more frequent recently?
I used to enjoy reading comments from posters like backwards, Chook, Madrooster, Chook 56 and a few others but they all seem to have vanished, what's happened to this place?
Shhh.... Don't speak
