Are you related to Chooky, drumstick? You sound like his twin.

Some of the passes that stuck in that game would have been knocked on 9 times out of 10 in the regular season. Their third try, I think it was, was just brilliance and one of the try's of the year for mine. We tried our hardest to claw our way back but just couldn't get there. The best team on the day won. Someone had to lose. It'd be a different story if we played a garbage team and lost by 30 on our biggest game of the year.
Their 3rd try was one of the all-time greats.

No defence could have stopped that one.

There was no pressure on their halves for much of that game and as such they did as they pleased. I'm still bitter if you can't tell.

True this did make it easier , but it was still a well executed try which doesn't work if one element is disrupted.

I dunno what the currant philosophy is with these junior structures, but I still think league is a simple game.
You don't need rocket science to help them improve tackling techniques or kicking skills.

I hope we're not "Matthew Ellioting" them to death.

              I'm intriqued...
IYO was this try the result of an exceptionally worked move or did it rely on exploiting a particular defensive habit?

Are you referring to the sliding defense? They continuously switched the play back infield which caught our defense out on many occasions as we were sliding across and couldn't handle the inside ball runners.
                ...

These inside-pass holes were starting to appear when we played Manly - unfortunately, they were not addressed sufficiently when the Finals came around.
I'm not sure if there was a possibility that we over-trained for the game against the Ponies because during the post-match interview with Robbo after the Bulldogs game, he said that he wanted to hold the boys back a bit with their training but they just went really hard on their own ...

Ripping in at training and over-training are two completely different things.

I more meant that he is thorough in what he does, planning and analysis. Not technical in the "over coaching way"

Coaches at that level move around alot, sounds like someone's (not you Eddie) relative didn't get the "superstar" treatment under Stewart

Ok I get what you mean.
I always thought it would be a good idea to have these teams coached by ex-first graders with good people skills, like Mini or Fitzy.
The kids would be pleased to be coached by someone with a recognised name, and at the same time you try and instil a loyalty for the club and it's history.
Of course they have specialist support staff.
Winning these comps is good, but the main function is player developement and spreading the word that the Roosters are a club you'd kill to play for.
Throwing too much money at 16 and 17 year olds ain't always the best idea.
But as I said, I've got no idea what is considered the way to go in the modern game.

                              It was bad BC!

It's not like we came from 6th/7th/8th.We were minor premiers and also favourites to win the comp.

I can live with us losing if we played well and were unlucky or just beaten by a better side in a close epic battle but we were junk.

A clunky performance typical of what you'd expect in a pre season game with players getting in each other way and over running the ball. Half arsed lazy D. Players caught out ball watching. More holes in our line than a block of Swiss cheese.

Simply not good enough from a team of our calibre.

True. I guess I was surprised at the way Milford and hunt dominated us. But they had outstanding games.
