  • RIP Steven Hanson

The Plasticine Man has passed away after having a heart attack in Thailand.

With Bruce Sinclair he was a big reason for the success we had in the early 90's. Looking back from these heady days that "success" is pretty sad but at the time (in the pre-Gus days) they gave us something to cheer.

RUGBY League Week wishes to pass on its condolences to the family of former North Sydney Bears prop Steve Hanson who passed away on Wednesday evening aged just 54.
Mr Hanson suffered a heart attack while holidaying in Thailand two weeks ago. He fell into a coma, and was flown back to Sydney’s Concord Hospital on the 27 October, where he remained until passing away at 5:30pm on November 4.
North Sydney legend Greg Florimo paid tribute to Mr Hanson who also represented NSW during the 1988 State of Origin series.
“Steve was a real character in the club,” Florimo tells RLW.
“He obviously played in a tough position up front and he had a unique ability to break the line and offload.
“He was a real mainstay in our forward pack during the mid-eighties . . . he was aggressive up front but a totally different man off the field.
“He was a lovely and caring man and over the last year he was really getting involved with the North Sydney Bears, turning up to games and really supporting the team.
“It was great to have him around.”
    STEVE HANSON
Born: August 7, 1961 in Bowral
Junior clubs: Bowral and McMahons Point

Geez condolences to loved ones...54 way too soon.

Loved the days of Steve Hanson with East's and formerly the Bears...Brucey Sinclair as mentioned trod that path too...from my old patch of Tamworth.

Steve was a great example of a guy who gave his all for his team.

Any word on the cause? Not to attack his legacy but sounds like a mixture of speed and viagra in Thailand?

I echo Jack's words....apart from the fact I do not hail from the country music Mecca.

Condolences to Steve's family and friends...
