I have come to the conclusion that Mitchell will never be the Johns or Thurston type halfback or Lockyer, Fittler type player that can lead a team, produce the big plays when needed, create try scoring opportunites the sort of player a team is built around.... This was my expectation of Pearce for some reason...
I see Pearce as a support player and someone that can take pressure off our main playmaker (Carney atm) and give us decent ends to sets and field position through good kicks...

Earlier this year Pearce admitted that although he is heavier and leaner (more muscle), he is still lifting the same weights. i.e. he has the same strength as when he was lighter. That means he has lowered his power/weight ratio which would make him slower.
The main difference between Carney and Pearce is power to weight. Carney is much more explosive over a short distance which allows him to more easily beat defenders. So what does our dumbass halfback do?

Apart from being a turnstile in that one try, I also thought he wasn't too awful on the weekend. Our players were all over the place, but he kept trying. There wasn't a whole lot of second phase play, he's generally pretty predictable in attack (which isn't anything we didn't expect) and there was rarely any link up play with Carney. It all amounted to an insidious attack.
Now, we all know now Mitch isn't ever going to be a Carney. He's a solid, organisng halfback who kicks generally well. To condemn him for not living up to his over-hyped expectations is very unfair on him. He's had every man and his dog in his ear since he was 17, telling him he was a 10 year origin player, NSW's future ectera, ectera. I'm sure that's in some ways stunted his development. The poor thing expects a lot of himself, gets disappointed and as we've seen previously, loses all confidence in his abilities.
It's sad really. I just hope people understand he's not going to be our saviour and aren't too hard on him if (when) it blows up in our face.
Carney on the other hand is just the man to tear OLD a new one. He's the only half in NSW i see capable of doing that. Unfortunately the stupid **** can't get that into his pea sized brain and would rather end up a drunken, broke bogan in gaol than the great player he was destined to be.****ing numbskull.
It's all a bit of a tragedy, isn't it?

If you're going to stick with Finch Jr, you have to stick with Hayne.

Played second fiddle to the other 'actors', and like Mitch, the chicks he roots are getting paid to perform.
