    HASTINGS EYES REWARD

The Roosters are hopeful of extending the deal of Jackson Hastings until at least the end of 2019.

Set for a big upgrade, the 19-year-old has begun discussions with Roosters management for a three to four year deal.

James Maloney’s departure to Cronulla has opened up a starting place alongside Mitchell Pearce with the club eager to tie up the youngster long-term.

Hastings, the son of Roosters legend Kevin, is expected to take over the goal kicking duties in 2016 and according to Roosters chief executive Brian Canavan the club is hoping to have a new deal signed off on in the new year.

“We’re both starting from the same page that he wants to stay and we want to keep him so that’s a good starting point,” Canavan said.

The same can be said for Boyd Cordner who’s manager has been in regular contact with the club.

The 23-year-old Origin and Test backrower has become one of the hottest commodities in the game.

With Newcastle and Manly among a number of clubs keen on the Old Bar product, Canavan said the club is hopeful of holding onto the leader they signed as a teenager from Newcastle in 2008.

“He’s developed into the sort of player and person we want to retain in the club,” he said.

“He represents our club and brand well both on and off the field.”

Fingers crossed both will re-sign long term contracts!

You can see one of our blueprints for success.

Re-sign our talented youth to deals long enough that will see us get 3 years value out of them whilst on less than they're worth.

If we re-sign Jacko until the end of 2019 and he has a stellar season, then we should get three quality seasons out of him at below market value. Maybe even four depending on how good he goes in 2016. The same worked for RTS.

This should have led to another Premiership over the past two seasons

Only problem is if they don't pan out like we hoped and we're stuck with them.

Though I guess it's pretty easy to shop players around these days.

I hope Jacko and Cords re-sign soon though, I'd rather not have a repeat of Roger or a bidding war.

On the other side of the fence players and their managers do alright sniffing out clubs that are willing to pay overs... existing contract or otherwise.
