  • Who would you prefer as our star in the backline - Ferguson or Jennings

I think this is an important question to pose, given our salary cap juggling act.

As well as that, there is no doubt that if Ferguson wasn't on our roster, Jennings would be going nowhere.

Both are easily the two most talented individuals in our backline. Both are slightly different - Jennings strength is evasiveness, Ferguson is more about a power running game. Defensively, Jennings has a slight edge. Ferguson has a height, build and weight advantage.

However they also have some commonalities - notably the lack of ball playing skills.

I personally think, as outstanding as he is, that Jennings has a narrower skillset. I think Ferguson has the potential to become a more multifaceted player and a very good fullback.

    What do we all think?

Ferguson is my choice. He has a similar skillset to Jennings and likes to get involved in the game, encourage his team mates etc. If the ball doesn't come to him, he goes looking for it. He is all enthusiasm and passion for the game and the team - I suspect a by-product of his enforced break from the NRL, which made him realise how lucky was to get another opportunity to play the game he loves.

Whereas Jennings primarily waits for the game to involve him, and if it doesn't, the team doesn't get much value out of him a lot of the time.

If it's value for money we are after, Ferguson is the one.

If Ferguson finds consistency and can get over his injury woes, he will be a force to be reckoned with.

What should've happened imo is the following.

The focus needed to be the fullback position. Arguably the most important in the modern game.

We should have been content with either Jenko or Fergo, not both, i repeat not both. The coin then should've been allocated to locking RTS in for the next 2/3 seasons.

A coq up of epic proportions that can only be forgiven if 1) We sign Hayne 2) We win the 2016 comp and Fergo takes out the CC medal and Dally M fullback of the year.

I agree. I think it was a f**k up to have two very expensive centres in the team and lose RTS.

That said, Hayne is not coming - forget about it.

Additionally, I think Fergo will be better than expected at fullback. Think a similar style to Dugan, but even better.

No one has convinced me that RTS leaving was our coq up.
Even Tobin contradicted himself in this argument.

RTS ain't a fullback god, he's just a very naughty boy.

RTS loved the club but not enough to take such a substantial pay cut.

His primary reason for leaving was money. He stated that it was a business decision.

We couldn't match the Warriors offer because we wanted not 1 but 2 shiny red ferrari's.

Did you see the centre pairing the Cows had last season and won the comp? They were like Toyota Corollas. We even gave them a Ford XR6 but it broke down (Moga)

Fergo is the more dangerous player - our X factor. But he is injury prone. But if forced to choose, I would choose him over Jennings.

2014 was when it was decided that RTS was leaving, it was his mothers call... Plain and simple! If mini retired after 2013 RTS would still be here.

RTS signed with the Warriors on the 8th April 2015. This after rejecting a second low ball offer from us of 520k a year. It had nothing to do with his mother. It all came down to $$$$
