I think this is all a sly ruse for us to lure Jamie Soward back to the Roosters.

I may be in the minority but I don't want Tedesco. Too injury prone.
We need to groom Latrell to become the long term fullback in about 12 - 24 months time, if he is as good as POS, Nick and Robbo believe. I agree with you about Tedesco, that's why Hayne is a better option because he is older and can always move into the centres in the last years of his career if needed. Plus he can step in and cover five eight if one of our halves go down with injury.

I agree, it took RTS a good 2 to 3 years. It is no accident he was that good at fullback, there is A LOT more to it than raw talent. Mitchell won't realise his full potential for another 3 years in my opinion, and in the meantime he would make an unbelievable Inglis-esque centre.

        1. Tedesco
        2. Toupo
        3. Mitchell
        4. Ferguson
        5. Burgess/SKD

That would be my dream back 5 - a shiteload of strikepower in there and the best value option available IMO.

          But Hayne wouldn't be.

I think that if he gives up on NFL he will be a Rooster.

But where does the $1m plus come from? We would have to offload a couple of our top players at least.

I would go for Pearce and Guerra.

          You?
No need to ditch anyone atm... We've offloaded plenty of cap space in 014,15,16, of course some players will go at seasons end but they'll be replaced by cheaper up and comers leaving a well balanced side that fits under the ever increasing cap!

You wouldn't swap Ferguson for Hayne?

              I'd rather have both.

If it's an issue of offloading a couple of players, I'm not choosing to offload the most devastating centre in the game as part of the trade off.

I'd get rid of Pearce and play Hayne at 5/8th and Latrell at fullback eventually..

I think Hayne has already decided to come to us if nfl falls through.

If the Chooks play SBW in the centres (or strictly as an edge runner) then i think he will be unstoppable and well worth it.

I definitely get rid of Guerra. His run, spin, run drives me crazy. And as much as i love him i think Moa will go.

2017 is the new cap increase. you would be a fool to believe the cap would exceed the 5.8mill by any more than 1mill. thats not enough addition cap space for two 1mill dollar players like hayne.

developement is our strongest commodity thanks to pos. we should keep to this. latrell will be fullback and fergo back to the centres.

we have pearce, maubs, jake, on the long term players list and i believe we should be rewarded for that. Boyd is coming up, (was toups a 20s player with us)
so no to hayne, and yes to sonny as assistant coach.

Well I'd rather we had the best of the Australian and NZ backline and the NZ and England forward pack, but there is a thing called the salary cap and spending a huge chunk of it on 2 backline players is not a smart thing to do.

If we were to get Hayne, then surely SBW wouldn't come and we'll either need to let go of 1 marquee player to fit him in like Ferguson, or 2-3 lower rung players and end up with an incomplete team. If we were to suicidally get both and wind up with $2.5 mill or more tied up in 2 goddamned players, then we'll be losing a whole range of players and wind up the new parramatta

Firstly the cap is not 5.8 for this season it is 6.8m rising to 7 next season. The real increase comes in 2018 when the new media deal kicks in. NRL total revenue increases by around 50 % when that happens,so u can expect the salary cap to rise by a similar %ge.So your looking at a 2018 cap of around 10-10.5mil.Last season NRL grants to each club was around 7.8m. The clubs have been told their annual grants will increase to 13m in 2018.

                          Copley, Moa & Toops.

Ferguson would return back to the centres.

Evans & Napa would handle extra minutes without a worry in the world.

Latrell Mitchell, Charlie Taylor or Joey Manu will be more than ready to take a wing spot by next year.

I think we'd probably be stronger in all 3 positions, maybe miss Moa a bit with his experience.

                          And we get Jaryd Hayne.

Guerra seems to be a popular choice but I just don't see any second row depth or youngsters ready to step up, in the limited time Taukeiaho played there this year he lacked the endurance. Releasing Guerra would mean having to go out to buy another second rower.

Pearce seems to be the other popular choice but I haven't seen any half in the club with the organisational or game management skills he has. Hastings is a very off the cuff, on the ball type half, at least at the moment any way it'll take him some time to develop the organisaitonal side of his game, which he has in abundance playing next to Pearce for the next 3-5 years.

Copley, Toops, and Moa wouldn't cover half of Hayne's salary..... Unless they are all on $500K I suppose

So Hayne will demand 3 million per year?

Copley is on 350-400k next year. Toops would probably be on 250-300, Moa roughly about the same. That's 900k-1m. Throw in some youngsters on minimum to replace 2 of the 3 departing and it's somewhere around 800-900k.

I dare say that's what Hayne would be worth under the cap with club affiliated TPA's still to be added on top of that. I'm also factoring in a rise in the cap to match a salary rise too, a 30% rise in the salary cap for 2018 would mean and extra 30% of his base salary, which would be another 250-300k. Taking him to a minimum of about 1.2m with club affiliated TPA's factored in.
