  • What does the Mitchell Pearce episode say about us?

There's been some anger and hatred expressed in this forum over the last few days. Why do fans abuse players who drop a pass/ let themselves down etc? Is it designed to help the player? Does it help the player?

I'm not necessarily complaining - just wandering what's going on.

The player in question is seemingly touched by an angel. Todd Carney, whose father died in prison so has an excuse to be a little emotional fragile, was given the arse from the club after less chances than Pearce. Pearce has the pedigree of a father who was above reproach and was one of the greats to play the game and yet he behaves like gutter trash.

Some of us are sick of him and hope that we never see him in the Roosters jersey again,

Hope that clears it up, at least on my end.

What the Mitchell Pearce episode says about us is that society projects their hatred of certain individuals in the media spotlight to offset their own unhappiness in their life and that while it is actually the media who is complicit in damaging the game of rugby league and the Sydney Roosters club by continuously replaying the footage and discussing the incident over and over again it is the people who facilitate this by continuing to take interest in it, for what reason I do not know.

After the tragic suicides of of younger players in recent seasons and a number of players in recent years speaking out about their battles with depression and other mental illnesses I think that it is disgusting that Mitchell Pearce has been savaged by media and society and it is even more disgusting the harshest of the hatred has been coming from the Sydney Roosters fans simply because the kid is not an Andrew Johns level of footballer. This episode has brought out many low human beings.

Probably because this guy was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and has been given so many chances by the club, yet he sh%ts on us? His actions, yes by a young man drinking privately, has put this club back three years and will hurt us for another 3. Sponsors, players wont come.

i just hate how he's disgraced the club AGAIN, he has no respect for the club, jersey, players ,fans or sponsors. if they guy cared about anyone but himself he would resign from the club and sort his shit out, but he won't.

Pearce is/was the co-captain of our Club, and with that comes certain responsibilities.
He has failed the Club in many aspects with this latest incident, and I'm worried about the culture of our Club if he were to remain with us ...

It doesn't say anything about us.

As much as I think the story has been overblown and sensationalized to the s**thouse and back, Pearce is a grown man and he is responsible for his actions. The club can't be there holding players hands 24 hours a day.

This is not the clubs fault.

                End of.

One thing it says about us is that a lot of us don't have an off season.
But if it weren't for the Roosters I wouldn't have any urge to discuss league at all.
Supporters from other clubs that are calling for his sacking make you wonder a bit.

                      Golden AP.

I also won't buy that the club wasn't previously aware of his alcoholism, nor excuse the club on the basis that they couldn't be vigilant 24/7. It's obvious they can't be nor should they need to. Pearce was the potential ticking time bomb they were willing to punt on...

The sad thing is it does reflect badly on our club and anyone saying otherwise isn't thinking rationally.

Pearce was the captain of our club. What does it say about our club when our appointed team leader is a massive goose who can't hold his alcohol and broke team protocol by continuing to party on after officials told him to go home ?

Not only that but he encouraged other players to break protocol with him.

The fact we chose him as our Captain is a terrible reflection on us.

Yes, the club can't hold everyone's hands 24/7 but it is a bad look and has killed our clubs reputation.

I feel sorry for Pearce, I do. I think is disgraceful how hard the media has hunted him down. From the first moment Josh Massoud opened his smug little mouth about how his career would be over, Pearce was going to be condemned to hell

                          It says a few things.

                          1. The club is in disarray with no CEO and a coach who seemingly cant't control his players.

                          2. It shows that too much money, too much time and too few brains are a recipe for disaster.

                          3. It shows the utter contempt that Mitchell Pearce has for the Roosters. His behavior, filmed or not, with apparent prior unreported bad behavior is a disgrace to our club.

                          4. The club is about to enter a dark period of little success and hopefully the fair-weather friends who joined up when times were good will leave.

Mate, agree with all you wrote except this line is a tad harsh.
Robbo made a bad call that's all.
It would only reflect poorly on us if he remained captain after this.

Wow. A thread that was supposed to analyse the anger became another outlet for the anger.
