for way too long the balance of our backrow has been wrong, Anasta simply doesn't have the workrate, Maubs can rack up the tackles but lacks punch when we are on the backfoot, FPN has been off his game this season and his hitups have been powderpuff like, although today he was much more involved.

compare that to the even spread of work by the backrowers today

Guerra 10 hitups (91m) 20 tackles
Mataka 10 hitups (80m) 16 tackles
FPN 10 hitups (81m) 27 tackles
Arona 7 hitups (56m) 24 tackles

Friend 10 hitups (74m) 39 tackles, was switched to lock after 45 minutes.


I really like having Friend as lock in the second half as he has the workrate to be a cleanup player and offers a decent hitup/scoot when required.

also would love to see Mataka kept in the first grade squad and plonked at left centre, he seems to have the ability to break tackles and offers second phase play which we have lacked this season.

I agree. They looked like they were having a dig, much like last week. It just isn't happening for them at the moment.

Attitude was great. Performance was not.

The thing I found most encouraging was that it was our senior (and much maligned) players he put in the best performances. Anasta, Mini and FPN all played well. JWH and Friend were also great. There was still a lot of ordinary performances though, but at least the effort was there.
