Sydney Roosters chairman Nick Politis threatens to leave Allianz Stadium over rebuild plan
February 12, 2016 6:43am AAP
SYDNEY Roosters chairman Nick Politis has warned he’ll move the NRL club to ANZ Stadium permanently if an $800 million plan to rebuild Allianz Stadium goes ahead.
Politis told The Australian newspaper he fears the Roosters could even go out of business if they are forced to leave their home ground for the three years as the development work goes ahead. The Roosters have been included in talks with the ARL Commission over the game’s stadium strategy, the outcome of which will play a significant role in determining how the NSW government will spend the $1.6 billion it has earmarked for venues in Sydney.
The proposal initially favoured by the NRL and state government was to rip down Allianz Stadium and start again, a move that would have forced the Roosters along with the NSW Waratahs and Sydney FC to find a new home for up to three years.
“We don’t want to be dislocated for three years,” Politis said.
“The only thing that matters to us - as well as Sydney FC and the Waratahs, because we’re all together on this - is that if the new stadium is to be built, we will have to go somewhere for three years.
“That would destroy our club. If that happens we will go to ANZ Stadium and we will probably stay there. Souths proved it. When they moved, everybody thought it was a bad move but now most of their supporters come from the west.” http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/spo...91d3f8045785da

I hope Uncle Nick is trying to bluff them with his threat of Homebush. Fark going out to Homebush. I most definitely will not be patronising that venue.
IMO, the SFS doesn't need to be demolished and rebuilt but rather redesigned & refurbished in stages. Both scoreboard ends need to have another level built above which should add a further 5,000 odd seats and reconfiguration around the ground would increase capacity to approx 50,000.....similar to Suncorp in Brisbane. If carefully done in stages all users of the venue can continue to play out of there albeit with smaller crowds but neither codes home crowds usually reach 20,000 anyway.
This staged approach was followed at the SCG when the Victor Trumper stand was built followed by the Noble/Bradman.
It's obviously a bluff. There's no way the chooks, tahs and FC would relocate for three years. It would cripple all of us. And as you said, **** homebush.

I hope common sense prevails!
i think 45,000 is more than enough to be honest.. dont get me wrong 50,000 would put the sfs up there with one of the best venues in aus but realistically we only get 15-19000 people in at our games. Final footy and big rival games usually pull around the 20-25000 mark too. So i would focus more on the things that make the sfs look more appealing rather than try to bump up seat numbers.

A move to Homebush would save me an hour at least on the round trip.
Another problem for the SFS is the area for the corporates... Currently they have the worse seats in the house.. To maximise income, the corporate boxes need to be in the eastern and western stands.

True. Clever redesign could encapsulate that problem.

Just crazy and senseless. I love the SFS. Always have.
Me too TCB. It's a perfect size for that part of the city and great for concerts in the summer time as well. I'm shocked at the waste of money and resources dedicated to ripping down a stadium when I passed a heartbreaking record number of homeless people on the street today between Park and King Sts. How about building a shelter for them instead if the government has so much money to splash around. It takes me nearly 50 minutes to get home from a game as it is and I live 4 suburbs away from Paddington.
"It's these little things, they can pull you under

I love the SFS, but at least half the supporters of the average 10k of Roosters supporters come from other parts of Sydney or regional NSW, and some from Canberra and not in the Eastern Suburbs. Therefore you Eastern Suburbs folks who support the Chooks get out in numbers this year...
I reckon Uncle Nick is bluffing but I for one and many others I know travel from where Homebush is way more convenient. It's actually easier for my Old Bar old boys mates to get too.....but it's a wasteland for pubs and entertainment.....I'm digressing.
