    .
My worry is we'll get pinged while in possession a lot while the opposition gets away with it.

It's seems ridiculous that we are hell bent on penalising the ruck and attempting to speed the game up at the same time. It doesn't make any sense.

Agreed... more penalties and more rule changes is just gonna slow the game down.

IMO what they REALLY need to do is:
        - Keep the current rules but enforce them properly (rather than selectively)
        - Can the 'cheat sheets' for refs because they give the refs tunnel vision. Instead, refs should look out for people intentionally trying to slow the ruck down and smash them into submission. Don't go into the game expecting one team to play dodgy... because they'll play like that if that's all you are looking for.
        - Don't be intimidated by star players and star coaches. Refs should be COMPLETELY independent, and should not be worried about feeling the wrath of Cam Smith or Wayne Bennett. If Smithy's slowing down the ruck, then apply a higher standard if anything because he's the best player in the game (and knows exactly what he's ordering his boys to do). Fark the corpse... if he disagrees with being penalised regularly then fine him for whinging.
