You see, for mine, Pearce has now done his dash. What ounce of respect I had remaining before the recent incident has evaporated. If he gets another opportunity to wear our proud colours I will find it particularly difficult watching him strut around.

    Good question.

I have a feeling that the longer things drag out without a decision, the more likely Pearce is to stay. I have a suspicion (i've got no direct evidence of this btw) that the first grade squad is backing Pearce 100% on this issue and that will probably be the determining factor in what eventuates.

If this is the case and he does stay, losing the captaincy to Jake/Boyd/Jared goes without saying. But I would really like him to earn his spot back properly through performing for Wyong.

However, my argument is that if we want to maximise performance and finely tune these bodies, surely binge drinking is detrimental to this, along with smoking and drug taking?
These players rely on their bodies for their employment, so every advantage should be considered?
Valid points made there for sure, but we have not had any serious booze bans over the past 3 years to my knowledge, yet we won a premiership and two minors

I bilieve in the last 3 seasons, the leadership group has implemented self-imposed booze bans, particularly towards the pointy end of the season.
So my interpretation of this is that the players themselves know that booze may negatively affect their performance.
But at the end of the day, if the players enjoy a cold one and that it helps them relax and play better footy, then balance is the key!

          • Pearce "earning" his spot back through Wong? What a load of sh!t.
If he was injured for 3 months he would slot straight back in. He is our number one half back and if the club don't sack him he will slot straight back in with SOH at 5/8 and Niko on the bench.
And who was the goose who said Pearce should be on the bench to give Friend a break. PUUUHHHHLLLLEEEEAAASSSSEEEEE!!!!

Won't be long before alcohol is contractually excluded during the season for everyone.

Can't see it happening to be honest. You can't stop a guy from having a drink with his mates, totally un-Australian.

For once it wasn't me as I am not commenting on the curious case of the dog in the afternoon.

You could say I'm dogging it and keeping my snout clean. The whole situation has given me paws and I have had to muzzle myself.

Excellent post which I agree fully with. I believe that a lot of players and officials at the club feel the same although they won't publically say it.

                    • if your gonna organise 20 blokes on a pissup ..shit will happen simple as that .Who ever organised the cruise wasnt very smart couldve been done a bit differently and better .Pearce has to be saved because he is not totally to blame although his own actions he owns.
There was another footballer at our club and he was worse many years ago a lot of people stuck up for him et etc but he never got publically busted ....he is still in rehabs

Rugby Yawnion would be laughing if that happened.

Mind you, even a draconian rule like that wouldn't have helped Captain Stupid. He helped out a slow news day during the off-season.

What makes you believe that? Most of the comments I have heard from anyone at the club have been fairly supportive of Pearce

                              Maybe.
Jeff will always have 1981 however.

Not for moral based reasons or to prevent damage control or lack of responsibility from players. The nrl is a business. Your body, skill, fitness etc is your product. Alcohol damages this product. There's too much money at stake. A club of 25 top graders that stayed off the grog for the entire season would improve without a doubt. Provided they all bought into it. Like I said I think it's only a matter of time.
