And that reason is far too many men are violent to women and get away with it. The media of course will take a different biassed alant on this one simply because SKD is an NRL footballer who also plays for the Roosters. It is unfair that some women will drag innocent men throught the courts but it is more likely the case that violent men get way with beating women without anything being done about it. And it often involves children. The system is there to protect these women.
    100% agree.

    100% against domestic violence.

And someone like this animal makes it all the more difficult for the real sufferers.

Those people ended up not working for the club after the attempted bribery, which made the footballer look guilty, and the case went to court.

I'm only half way through it. It will be interesting to see what happens.
Clever post Johnny. Will you finish the book before the court case is completed and a verdict reached? I'd really appreciate you sharing the outcome of the book....

          • Re the articles posted on the last page, the Australian one seems to be building up for the big "SKD is Innocent" angle. It's the first article I've seen since proceedings began that is stacking-up all of the reasons as to why it's unlikely that SKD did anything worse than stealing her phone and going through it's contents 'cause he was suss on her potential infidelities.

The second one on the ABC is also still playing both sides well – just as their one the other day did too. I think that they are doing a good job of reporting the facts without the sensation.

Of interest to me was the (stricken by the judge) alleged payment of $5k worth of consulting fees by SKD's business to her in "$100 bills in a brown paper bag". Now either the biggest cliché in the history of Rooster bashing just happens to be some kind of smoking gun relating to SKD and the Roosters' characters, or her defence has tried to tarnish the image in an attempt to score petty points.

That's actually the most notable part for me of the whole proceedings. Why is it always 'brown' paper bags anyway? Why not say white for a change?

              • Just in on ABC
NRL player Shaun Kenny-Dowall has denied he was jealous, controlling and had problems controlling his anger during the third day of the Roosters centre's domestic violence trial.
Kenny-Dowall faced cross-examination in the Downing Centre Local Court as his former partner — the woman who accused him of abusing her, Jessica Peris — looked on from the gallery.
The footballer denied kicking Ms Peris, placing her in a headlock, and pouring alcohol on her during separate alleged assaults in 2014 and 2015.
Kenny-Dowall has pleaded not guilty to 11 charges including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, common assault, stalking and intimidating and property damage.
The Roosters player told the court his former partner Ms Peris had "charged" at him during a domestic incident in February 2015 following an argument over the couple's dog.
Kenny-Dowall agreed he locked his partner out of the couple's bedroom following the row.
Ms Peris subsequently broke the lock to the bedroom, after which Kenny-Dowall said Ms Peris attacked him.
"She reacted to me, she charged me," Kenny-Dowall said.
The footballer denied then grabbing Ms Peris, placing her in a headlock and flipping her onto the bed.
The court also heard details of a stream of text messages that Kenny-Dowall sent to Ms Peris calling her a "faggot", a "f***tard, and a "dumb f***".
Under questioning from prosecutor Amin Assaad, Kenny-Dowall denied he had issues with anger and that he sought to control Ms Peris's social life.
"She was walking on eggshells around you, wasn't she?" Mr Assaad said.
                "No," Kenny-Dowall replied.

It also needs reminding to the public that Shaun did not turn himself in as has been widely reported.

                            • From the SMH ...
Sydney Roosters centre Shaun Kenny-Dowall locked himself in a bathroom so he could go through his girlfriend's phone because he believed she was cheating on him, he has told a court.
However, the 28-year-old NRL star has denied that he was jealous and controlling of his girlfriend, professional track athlete Jessica Peris, during their 18-month relationship.
On the final day of Kenny-Dowall's three-day hearing into domestic violence allegations, he told the Downing Centre Local Court that it was "not that possible" to walk away from Ms Peris when she was "attacking" him during a heated argument in their Coogee apartment.

Instead, he had to throw her phone across the room and grab her arm tightly in order to make her stop, he said on Friday.
The alleged incident in October 2014 is one of 11 allegations of assault, intimidation, stalking and destroying property made by Ms Peris, daughter of Olympian turned senator Nova Peris.
Kenny-Dowall has pleaded not guilty to all offences, which include headbutting his girlfriend, pushing her, pulling her hair, putting her in a headlock, destroying a mobile phone, grabbing her arm so tightly it left a bruise, kicking her out of bed and sending offensive text messages.
He said that, during the heated argument on October 10, 2014, he locked himself in an en suite bathroom for about five minutes and believed he found evidence of cheating on her phone.
He conceded he was angry and threw her phone across the bedroom, causing it to smash, and grabbed her arm, possibly leaving a bruise.
He also conceded he punched a framed picture on the wall, causing his hand to bleed.
Prosecutor Amin Assaad told the court Kenny-Dowall was about 35-40 centimetres taller than his girlfriend and about 50 kilograms heavier.
"And you are telling the court that you couldn't walk past her out of an open [bedroom] door?" he asked.
"She was attacking me, sir," he replied.
Asked again why he didn't just walk away, he replied, "It's not that possible."
The couple broke up on June 25, 2015, and Ms Peris made a report to police on July 16.
Kenny-Dowall has agreed that the arguments behind each alleged incident took place but he denies he used violence towards Ms Peris.
The court heard that, during the relationship, Kenny-Dowall asked Ms Peris to remove a photo from Instagram that showed her in a crop top and he fought with her when she wanted to catch up with a male friend, suggesting the friend only wanted to "f---" Ms Peris.
Senior Sergeant Assaad accused Kenny-Dowall of being a jealous and controlling boyfriend, which he denied.
The NRL player, who has been with the Roosters for 12 years, was grilled over more than 40,000 texts the couple exchanged over a 10-month period.
In some texts, just before a fight in which he allegedly sprayed a vodka alcopop on Ms Peris, he refers to his girlfriend as a "dumbf---", "dumb c---", "f---tard" and "faggot". Ms Peris used similar insults during the relationship.
Ms Peris has also accused her boyfriend of joking to his mother about "bashing" her when a bruise appeared on her arm.
Earlier this week, the court heard explosive allegations that the Sydney Roosters tried to cover up Ms Peris' domestic violence complaint and that Ms Peris only went to police after the NRL club wouldn't give her financial incentives, including income, a car and accommodation.
