That means the prosecution didn't tender it as evidence. Did they not tender it as they gambled that the defence would, or, did they not because they worried about how it looked for her?
Fair points. It is very interesting that her legal team didn't tender it, and given the letter references texts that demonstrate his violence, their absence in the 40k worth of texts entered into evidence suggests she could be lying.

I think the uncertainty should save SKD, but without knowing all the details between them I don't really know how I feel about this all one way or the other,

It is absoulutely ludicrous unless you are the entitled type that feels the world owes you something.
Agree 100%. It's laughably ludicrous and an absolute sense of self entitlement as u say. As for why she's gone ahead with this despite the revelations coming out about her own cocaine use etc, it's all about spite and revenge, her life was/is in the gutter, she's got bugger all to lose she has nothing while skid goes on as a well paid NRL star. The club definetly made the right call telling her to take a walk.

Yes, 40k worth of texts and supposedly no mention of violence and yet the letter to the Roosters has domestic violence allegations littered left, right & centre throughout.

Having read her letter to Canavan, I felt inclined to believe her to be honest, but the lack of any supporting evidence in the texts raises doubts.

I generally side with the woman on this stuff, and what she was asking Canavan wasn't terribly extortionist, but all the same it wasn't a great look that she asked the club for it all the same.
It's all a real mess really, and it's a shame this had to play out in the media like this.
              Geez you are naive.
That was a blatant letter of extortion. There is no other reason to hit up your ex partners employer like this other than for financial gain.
I think if she really felt like that she would have accepted any offer she could get.

If money was the motivation she'd have settled by now. She has as much to lose as he does here. Makes me worry more about the outcome. I don't think she'd pursue it if she didn't believe strongly that he's acted really inappropriately and is confident he'll be convicted. Why else would you allow your personal life to be displayed by the media to the public.

                  • Anyone have an idea of when the court will reach a verdict? Or is it just one of those things that will drag on.

30 June, 2015 Private 5 Confidential Good evening Brian, As discussed on the phone with you earlier today I am writing to you and the Roasters football club about this Sensitive and traumatic situation. it is with great distress, anxiety and fear that i find myselrsending this communication to you in regards to the many forms of domestic violence I have endured and been a victim of during my 18 month defacto relationship with shaun Kenny~DowalL The layers of trauma run quite deep, This is not only traumatising for me but also for my 5 year old son. it absolutely breaks my heart and spirit that i had to endure another physically and mentally abusive relationship. Shaun has kicked me out of our shared home, and left me physically and emotionally abused, homeless, Jobless, destitute and without immediate support of family and friends to enable me to get back on my feet. By way of background on my relationship with Shaun and the circumstances that brought me to Sydney from my home town of Darwin. shaun made a commitment to me to support not only me, but my son-las a stepfather) and, being genuinely happy in the relationship at that time, I made the sacrifice for me to leave my family, friends and employment Priofto leaving Darwin i had full time work, a car and minimal personal debts, when I arrived in Sydney I had my work, my car, friends and most importantly an income. During the course ofthe relationship shaun convinced me to sell my car and resign from myiob on the basis he would financially support me, however, this did not include my personal debts, including my car payments. This put me in a very difficult financial position. shaun controlled the money and therefore most things in our shared life. Justifying purchases made me feel disempowered and degraded. in lieu oi having paid employment, have done an enormous amount ofwork helping setting up Shaun's proposed new business forwhich was not paid a salary. it was intended that I be an employee in the new cate'. have been subjected to physical and verbal abuse, harassment, social isolation, emotional blackmail and property damage. Physically, shaun has kicked me, headabutted me, pushed me into walls and doors, pulled my hair, pinched me, thrown me on to the bed, baulked as if he was about to hit me in the head which would make me cower. He would stand over me and intimidate me by getting in my face. Verbally, he has called me numerous degrading names in many text messages that I have, and has constantly told me that have nothing and continually devalued me. he would always remind me that I contribute nothing to this relationship despite maintaining the home for his benefit as well as working towards establishing his new business. I have become socially isolated due to the relationship and as a result i felt and still feel depressed and alone. an the night our relationship ended, he smashed my phone, screamed at me and kicked me and lsaac out of the house leaving me and my son homeless. With Home else to turn to, I walked with my frightened son about 1km to my athletics coach's house. shaun's actions are totally unacceptable and inexcusable. Domestic violence against women is illegal and must stop. I'd prefer this not to become public as I do not believe I am in 2 position, emotionally, to deal with the media attention that would arise, I am speaking out to you first and
foremost and I?m undecided as whether or not I report this to the Police. Morally I believe that I should but it puts me in an agonisingly difficult position. . Upon you hearing my situation I believe it is only appropriate that the football club take internal actions in an effort to prevent any further domestic violence occurring (whether it be to a future partner of Shaun or any other footballer or person associated with the club). [don?t believe Shaun appreciates or cares about the affect his actions have had on me or my 5 year-old son, just the fear for his own reputation. I spoke to Cath from the club whom I consider a friend. She advised me to keep this quiet as if I was to report it to the Police they will leak it to the media. That made me feel extremely let down and even more vulnerable, frightened and helpless. While 1 appreciate the club has concerns about its reputation, this must be its secondary concern. its primary concern should be to any person who is being abused and is subject to domestic violence by a member of its personnel. While I appreciate the offer both yourself and Cath at the club has provided (for 1 months accommodation and use of a car for that period), it does not give me enough time to get back onto my feet by sourcing alternate accommodation and a vehicle. I have been left destitute and facing the real probability of bankruptcy. It will take me 6 months or more to restore my life to what it was before, and therefore I propose that the offer from the club be extended to that period of time and include an income for 1 month. I note that the NRL has partnered with the white ribbon movement to enact change in the struggle to prevent domestic violence. This is a great initiative. As the victim of domestic violence I am now seeking support from one club in the NRL to re?establish my life after being subjected to 6 to 7 months of domestic violence at the hands of one of its long standing players. I appreciate you speaking to me on the phone regarding this delicate situation and I look forward to your reply as soon as possible. Regards, Jessica Peris
                      I can't read that self-serving clumsy-blackmail shit.

So her mum couldn't throw her a few of our tax dollars to avoid her being "homeless"?

Mr Temby also said Kenny-Dowall never kicked her repeatedly out of the couple’s bed in March, 2015.
Peris denied that was the case.
She admitted drinking alcohol and taking cocaine before an alleged assault in April, 2015. She denied she was drunk.
“Not to an extent that I could not control my actions,” she said.
                            “I did have some cocaine.”
Another of allegations involved Kenny-Dowall pulling Peris’ hair.
Kenny-Dowall’s barrister Ian Temby QC said the only time her hair was pulled was during consensual sex.
Kenny-Dowall sent Peris a text saying “I want to bend you over and pull your hair” in May 2015.
Peris told the court she responded positively to this text but said her hair was pulled during one assault and not just during sex.
In other texts, Peris allegedly insulted Kenny-Dowall.
                            “You f**king piece of shit”, “you’re a f**ing c**t” and “you’re a f**kwit”.
Peris said she only gave as good as she got.
“I was insulting him... in those circumstances I replied in the same language,” she said.
Peris admitted she laid her complaints three weeks after Kenny-Dowall booted her and her son out of his unit because she did not receive “material support” from her former partner or the Roosters.
“You were trying to see if you could get material support out of either the Roosters, my client or both,” Mr Temby said.
                            “Yes sir,” Peris replied.
“Not until you found out no material support was forthcoming that you went to police,” Mr Temby said.
Mr Temby put it to Peris that in 2015 her finances were a “terrible mess”.

The court heard that her car had been repossessed and the leasing company had laid a statement of claim of $9,000 against her.
Peris said the matter with the leasing company was resolved.
In the letter to Roosters CEO Brian Canavan Peris wrote “I’d prefer this not to become public” and referred to her abusive relationship with a former partner in the letter.
The father of her child was found guilty in a Darwin court in 2012 of destroying her phone and violating an apprehended violence order.
Mr Temby asked if going to the police would make the matter public.
“Yes sir it was inevitable,” she said.
Peris said she still may have laid the complaints even if the Roosters had agreed to her terms.
“I was undecided whether to report this matter to police,” she told the court.
The court heard Kenny-Dowall had paid $10,000 to help Peris move to Sydney in 2014.
When she was in Sydney he told her he would not help her with her payments or her past debts.
Mr Temby also said there were striking similarities between the allegations against Kenny-Dowall and those against the father of her child in 2011.
“Have you recycled the complaints into false allegations against Shaun Kenny-Dowall?” Mr Temby said.
Peris denied that was the case.
The court heard Peris wrote to the Roosters asking for accommodation and the use of a car for six months as well as one month’s income of an unspecified amount.
The club offered her accommodation and a car for a month after she had separated from Kenny-Dowall.
Unsatisfied with the club’s offer Peris then went to police but denied she would have not done so if Roosters gave her what she wanted.
The court heard Peris was offered a $20,000 Range Rover and property of Kenny-Dowall by a third party.
Magistrate Gregory Grogin said there was no suggestion any offers made during negotiations between the Roosters and Ms Peris would have dissuaded her from going to the police.
