Here's my letter:

Dear Mr Baird.

You were very quick to denounce Shaun Kenny-Dowall and declare that he should be stood-down by the NRL despite him a) pleading not guilty to all charges mounted by his former partner, and b) having his own side of the story ignored.

The first claim I make against you can be corroborated by your own words, quoted below:

"Everyone is obviously allowed a right and an opportunity for this case to be proven, but I think if the NRL was going to send a strong message, they could say 'we don't want you to play until this case is proven'."

Here you – the top-ranking government official in the state – come out publicly and put pressure on the NRL to suspend the employment of a person based purely upon your personal 'gut' on the incidents in question.

The following adjectives spring to mind when I consider your actions:
"unprofessional", "ego-centric", "opportunistic", "hubristic", "judgemental", "arrogant", and most of all "dangerous".

The second claim I make against you is hard to corroborate; I have no hard evidence that you ignored Shaun's side of events, but the fact that you said what I quoted above can only mean that you were completely devoid of any history of who Shaun Kenny-Dowall is and what he represents, and that you were completely unaware of who Jessica Peris is and what she represents.

You condemned a good man in that judgemental way that only a conservative can, all for opportunism.

You owe Shaun and his family – and all good citizens of this state an apology.

They knew he was innocent and they wanted to have no possible grounds for doubt. I'd say that Mr. Temby suggested that if the judge was in any doubt that he would dismiss the charges, in a forthright and strong manner.
