  • Imported player count. Each club.

Which club is fielding the most players developed through their own system?
We've copped heaps of stick in this department for a long time. Teams like Brisbane, NZ and Penrith have a huge advantage obviously.

Anyway, I bought the big league and did the maths.
I thought it fair just to count how many players in each team were established first graders when signed to their present club.Hence I didn't count players like Moa who featured in one game before going to England, or players like Tamou who left us before playing top grade, or even the Burgii who played in a different comp.

Of course the Roosters won, or I wouldn't be making this thread.

    For those curious the count is;

    Roosters - 2
    Broncos pty ltd - 3
    Storm - 4
    Knights - 5
    Canberra - 5
    Vermin - 5
    Wests - 5
    Manly - 7
    Cows - 8
    Sharks - 8
    NZ - 8
    st Merge - 8
    Titans - 9
    Berries - 9
    Penrith - 9
    Parramatta - 10

I guess we have become the most successful club at developing talent.

it's a long way from the 70's, and the '13 import' rule.

Didn't Jennings look like an absolute plodder in Parra colours. Testament to Trent Robinson in my opinion.

Jennings needs quality halves to get him early ball. He's not a battering ram. If parra don't get that right he'll be a waste.

          Greatl thread Eddie!
I think Rooster's Management one POS can take a lot of credit for where we are today.
Their vision, strategy and business acumen are second to none!

Lol that's now how imported players lists work. Tupou wasn't developed by us. Burgess wasn't. Jwh wasn't. Moa wasn't. Guerra wasn't. Ferguson wasn't.. Just going off the top of my head.

              I remember that.
Souths juniors were counted as non-imports as I recall.

I'm really proud of how Polites has turned our club around since the Ron Jones days.

Our imported players in the side this week are Fergo, Copley, SST and Moa. JWH also when he returns. Hendo doesn't really count because he was ours to begin with.

Also the step up from lower grades to first grade is the hardest part of developing players so which ever club the player makes their debut from is still responsible for developing the player regardless of where they come from. So yes we did develop Toops, Guerra etc.

He is talking about the number of established first grade NRL players "imported". JWH, Tupou and Guerra weren't in this category. He explains his thinking with Moa and Burgess and that's fair enough. That leaves Fergo and Copley.

For the more cynical amongst us we could call the list something else.
Signing unwanted players like Tupou, and watching him succeed counts for something as well.

                        Spot on Spirit.
It dispels the myth that we plunder and pillage the poor helpless (read useless) teams in the comp.

Yeah I know what he's saying. And I agree we've copped a bad go from most other fan bases saying we don't develop anyone. But there's a big difference between developing a player and who they debut for. How many 20s or nsw cup games did tupou play for us before he debuted? Was it any? Same for Guerra. Jwh had played a handful of first grade games before he came to us. He played for NZ after about 4-5 first grade games from memory.

So what happened to all the signings we were supposed to announce prior to the season start? Hayne? Tedesco? Others?

Please PM me if you know something that needs to be kept out of the public arena or better still post so everyone can read

I don't really care how many players are 'imported'. I was born in Canberra, moved to Mosman aged 3, moved to Austinmer aged 5, went to Austinmer Public School, played for the Thirroul Butchers as a kid. I moved to Paddington aged 12, played for Roosters feeders and had I been good enough for first grade I woulda been a Rooster for sure.

Is that 'stealing' a player from Canberra, the Gong and North Sydney? Hell no. I hate Mosman (way too lame and pretentious), Austi's a shytehole (beautiful place if you ignore the people) and being born in some old Canberra hospital that they blew up (killing a kid in the process) doesn't make me bleed green.

I'm sure Copley would love to play for Brisbane, but they decided to sign a guy with 'more speed to blow than Oxford Street' instead. Like any job, you go where the opportunities are. Brisbane can hardly say we 'stole' him given they gave him a massive slap in the face and forced him to look elsewhere. Surely they can't claim Nikorima woulda been playing 1st grade for the first 9 rounds this season either.

All I care about is the fact that people have chosen Bondi. Who gives a shyte how they got here?

Edit: What's the bet Brisbane start whinging that we didn't 'grow' Copley and Nikorima when they come back and smoke their old club. If we can get better value outta Copley than they can outta Roberts then it shows 1 thing - we're better at developing players.
