  • Rugby League Media Disgrace - unethical, immoral and cancerous

I am dumbfounded by the tabloid driven feeding frenzy this time. The hounding will just not let up, and for an incident where no laws were broken.

Usually i'm not surprised, being familiar with how these media organisations work internally first hand. But this is something else. A weaker man may well be driven into traumatic depths of depression. Regardless of what you think of him as a player, I sure as hell hope he is ok but I certainly wouldn't be if I was in his position and I am a tough bugger mentally.

The episode occoured some five weeks ago now, yet this is a sample of the headlines that have gone to press over the past 48 hours:

*Mitchell Pearce’s fine is huge, but he’s just lucky to be playing footy*
*Mitchell Pearce has had his last alcoholic drink*
    *Pearce's career should end*
“Complex and unprecedented”: How Pearce ended up on the sidelines $75K poorer*
*Does Mitchell Pearce deserve to be kicked out of the NRL?*
*Pearce should never be allowed back*

Given the entire episode took place behind closed doors and was perfectly legal, I think the media had a moral obligation to rein in 'Dog-gate' when it has got out of hand, and it is now likely to severely affect his mental wellbeing.

In my book, the media have come out of this episode looking far worse than Mitchell.

They would happily drive him to the state of depression or suicide for another headline...
Hope that Mitch'the person', not just the footballer, can survive all of this...
Front page headlines while rapists, murderers & pedophiles are pushed back among the crosswords, cartoons & tv guides...
    Pathetic...

      Great post.
Remember when the media reported news?
And they paid the scumbag who filmed him in the first place.

I wonder whether the media would have published the same "redemption" stories for Russell Packer and Danny wicks had they joined our club ............

Media... the binge drinking, drug fueled "I effed a dog" newspaper journos are the biggest hypocrits going. This Pearce episode shows exactly who is and isn't spoon fed thoughts by media. Frightening really... but at least we know.

            Just look at todays stories.

Corey Norman in trouble for using his phone mid match. I would suggest he may have been texting family to say his neck was ok? But that appeared nowhere in the article.
James Roberts post match interview Oxford St comments
            Wayne Bennetts Mardi Gras comments

Maybe I'm old, but I really don't care. If Wayne Bennett says he doesn't want to see Roberts on a Mardi Gras float (tongue in cheek) then do we really need to carry on about it.

We are all just running scared of do gooders.

This is like what's happening in the U.S. The media had been building up Donald Trump's presidential run for months and they complain when he becomes too big for them to cut down to size.

People continue to read the trash and they continue to put the trash out.

So called fans such as Johnny, Lydon, Cockadoodledoo, Andrew Walker and the fat man would love Mitchell Pearce to go down this path. These people are sick in the head.

To say something like this shows what a low life cretinous human being you are. I can honestly say you are the only person on this site that I have zero respect for. I like to banter with people like TCB, Andrew Walker, ROC etc but it is all in good fun. I can only include that you suffer from some type of intellectual disability or are just purely deranged. Seek help, you need it badly...

I don't think any of the headlines worry Pearce because he knows he did the wrong thing & he knows he has taken responsibility for his actions. When you address the issue like Pearce has it doesn't matter what happened in the past, its irrelevant. Its what happens in the future that is important.

One of the things that bothers me the most about these kind of stories breaking is that guys like Pearce and Carney get sent to rehab or are told they can never take a drink again. They are treated like alcoholics or addicts. I don't know these guys personally but imo there is a massive difference between being an alcoholic/addict as compared to someone who basically enjoys alcohol a bit too much and tends to do stupid things whilst under the influence. Pearce is still a young guy and he may well have been brainwashed to believe that he is an alcoholic and that he should never take another drink. This creates unnecessary pressure and eventually when he does take a drink (which he will) he may feel he has done something truly terrible and the do-gooders will be all over it again.

Also don't forget that NRL is the Daily Telegraph's bread and butter. It is the main sport that they report on and I would even go so far as to say their shitty little tabloid is totally dependent on it.

Read this and read this properly you pious sanctimonious piece of shit. I strongly suggest you go back and read through everything I have written about Pearce and what should happen If you do you will see my 1st and main priority here was the well being of Mitchell Pearce In short I think he has come back to quick Now when you see this to be true I expect a retraction and an apology to myself for the above comments. If you are trolling to get a reaction then you have some sort of mental issue to do it in this way Get some help quickly

To say what you have said above says more about you and the low life vile filthy scum that you are than it does about any of the posters you have attacked I await you r apology and reatraction of the above statement

I was very surprised to hear Alan Jones Giving the media and the NRL a big serve on their handling of the Pearce and Kenny Dowell stories.
