  • Instead of replying to wach of the comments about my good self....

I will post my thoughts here.

Pearce was good not great , NSW really created nothing in attack, for the first 20 my mate Sowie was non existant, in all facets, which is exactly the period QLD dominated, Pearces kicking game in that [period was abysmal, but in his defence he was kicking from deep in his own half most the time.

As Soward gradually came into the game, the tide turned, he started finding the turf and space with his kicks and NSW started turning the big QLD pack around.

    Too little too late though.

I thought in defence both done well, especially as i do not want my halves making 20 tackles a game.

Between them they saved a stack of tries.

Both players though passed way too early before the line and i havent seen the stats but NSW were rarely in QLDS 20, so whining about our halves is not warranted, lets not forget Finchy has paid 4 origins now, Sowie a 1st timer.

In summary, Pearce shaded Sowie last night, but the margin wasnt as great as Mitchs disciples make it out to be.

On the others Uate and Jennings was terrific, Gallen and Snowden also very good as was Ennis and the next Roosters fullback Dugan.

On the other side of things King, Gay Creagh, Young, MOrris were pathetic, Gasnier was also ordinary, he crabs across field way too much.

Apart from some defense Scott was non existant and Mannah and merrin not involved enough.

If i have forgotten anyone stiff.

One massive positive for the Mitch Finch disciples though is the telling stat that it is the 1st time in his career he has played in a game involving Soward and Soward has lost.

    Blast away!!!!!!!!!!

Good post - fair analysis. I think for Pearce to really fulfill his potential he has to get smarter week in, week out. Possession, repeat sets, sustained pressure and territory win matches these days. If Pearce can really start to get his kicking game working towards those things he will continue to improve. I don't think Soward and Pearce is a good combination as neither of them has much of a running game. We need a Carney type player to add the x factor IMO.

Saying pearce shaded Soward is being too kind to soward.

Pearce had the control of the game and of the attack, it was the combo of pearce, dugan, jennings and Bird on the left side attack that looked the most dangerous.

Is pearce a stand alone game breaker, not at this stage, you would be hard pressed to find a 22 year old that would tear up a side with the likes of Cam smith, lockyer, Petro, myles, Parker et al, all on his own.

Carney and pearce as NSW halves will get them rolling and get NSW success.

I was at the game last night and watched Soward in the opening 20mins. I'm not sure if it was part of the game plan to have Pearce handle the kicking in the first 20mins. However, Soward did not even go looking for the ball in that period let alone go looking for a kick

He improved as the game went on. I think he'll be better for the run in game 2. The fluency of the QLD attack was clear because the 1, 6, 7 and 9 have played together for a considerable length of time. We need stability in these key positions and should stick with our 1, 6 and 7. Young was ineffective. Ennis was hot and cold and was instrumental in the winning play for QLD. I'd still have him for game 2 but go with Hinchcliffe on the bench

I think both Soward and Pearce were ok bearing in mind the domination of the Qld forwards. Matt Scott had racked up 100m in the first 30mins. King, Creagh and Scott are powderpuffs. Scott defends well but is ineffectual making metres. Our lack of go forward contributed to our kickers kicking from deep inside our half

I think last night showed how much halves depend on their forward pack. Soward is a superstar playing behind a dominant Saints pack that gets all the 50/50's but he was a mere mortal last night when faced with the lot offered to every other half/5/8th in the comp.

I wont blast away because most of your post is way too funny. Shaded is coming from a Coward disciple. The only part of his game I love is his kicking. When we needed him for the first 20 to kick deep and get us out of trouble he was missing in action as usual.

I have been having this same discussion for about a year with my old man. He loves Soward. Last night he even turned on the little prick. Pearce saved a stack of tries, scored one himself, and created plenty.

In summary Soward kicked 2 great goals, and had the commentary box pulling themselves every time he made a tackle out wide.

Gal and Bird were the standouts for NSW, because our front row was poor. Young Pearce was probably only shaded by Gal as best for the blues.

now I am not so pissed off about losing, I realise if NSW are serious we may lose another series or so.
We have to work with some of these players and let them become SOO players.

Some though I think should be punted.

It has been suggested in the media that Soward played a lot of dummy half and kept away from general play in the first 20 minutes to ease him into the game. Then he was still protected by his body guards for the rest of the game. This was Stuart's way of protecting him. FMD get Creagh to give the princess his leotard. It's fkn State Of Origin. He made one decent drop out out of 6. The rest of his kicking game was average. So he made a couple of decent tackles. Big fkn woop. He gave absolutely nothing in attack. I like how Gus said in the first 20 minutes "if he isn't kicking then why is he there?" Why is he there if it's just for kicking? We need a running 5/8 who can create opportunities. He should frame his jersey and tell his grand kids that he played one game for NSW. The Soward SOO experiment failed and if he plays again we are doomed. QLD will improve with Hodges, Inglis and Shillo. We need to improve and pick a team that can score 4 tries to be in with a hope. The current team won't do that.

He can take his Dragons softc0cks Gaz, Morris, Creagh and Young with him.

Created plenty ???? The only blokes that created anything were Uate and Jennings, neither half were high in the creativity stakes, bird done well to put Pearce over, that was hardly a creative play by Pearce, but credit where it is due, he was in the position to score.

Soward and Pearce will both be better for the run together and get use to it people, Soward was nowhere near bad enough to be dropped.

That pack is the problemSnowden injured, apart from Gallen and Bird the rest are pansies

MOrris and pretty boy Gaz deserve to be dropped, but of course they wont.

That is correct MUzz, the 1st half Pearce controlled the attack, we scored a total of zero points, attacking is and will never be his strong point, when Soward finally got involved NSW looked dangerous, whether by design or mismanagement, his involvement came way too late.

These 2 will form a lethal combo

IMO Pearce done nothing " special" last night apart from some last ditch defence and a nice try, Soward saved just as many tries, both kicking games were off, neither were afforded much of an oppotunity in attack add to that the poor slow service from young at dummy half they were on a hiding to nothing.

Powderpuff forwards and a useless Gaz and hopeless over rated out of form Morris were the problems last night

Idris, Hayne, Farrah, Tolman should be rushed into that team

hayne would be my utility off the bench and used as an impact player

Carney and Pearce struggled to put 1 try on the board against CRonulla, until Carney stops crabbing across field, Origin is a long way off.
