  • Some perspective and a little rant.

    Whilst I am not excusing the capitulation against the Raiders and the belting from the Bunnies I can understand it. We are not close to the team we have been spoilt having over the past 3 years. Consider who we have lost;

    Fullback - RTS
    Centre - Jennings
    5/8th - Maloney
    Half - Pearce
    Back Row - Cordner
    Front Row - JWH

    That is an enormous amount of talent. What would happen if the Cowboys lost;

    Fullback - Coote
    Centre - Linnett
    5/8th - Morgan
    Half - Thurston
    Back Row - Taumalolo
    Front Row - Scott

    What if the Broncos lost;

    Fullback - Boyd
    Centre - Kahu
    5/8th - Milford
    Half - Hunt
    Back Row - Gillett
    Front Row - Thaiday

    What if the Bunnies lost;

    Fullback - Inglis
    Centre - Auva'a
    5/8th - Keary
    Half - Reynolds
    Back Row - S. Burgess
    Front Row - G. Burgess

    What about the Storm;

    Fullback - Slater
    Centre - Chambers
    5/8th - Green
    Half - Cronk
    Back Row - Proctor
    Front Row - Bromwich

    A bit long-winded but you get what I'm saying.

    Losing the way we have over the past two weeks is unacceptable...............to the 2013-2015 team. This is 2016 folks and the dream is over. We aren't that team anymore. I am thankful for the great memories, will never stop supporting them, will go to every game I can, will wear the colours proudly as often as I can and I will put up with the garbage that will be dealt up on occasions this year because I am a ****ING ROOSTER and I know that the good times will be back soon.

    Loved by few, hated by many, respected by all.

    The return of JWH, Cords and Pearce will make a huge difference.

      We are the only team dumb enough to get rid of our fullback, center and 5/8 by choice though. Losing all three in one off season is unforgivable.

        Nicely put Poppa.

        We have indeed been spoilt, but what made 2013 (and 2014, 2015) so sweet were the hard times that we all went through prior.

        The years in the wilderness post Freddy, notably 14th in 2006, 2009's wooden spoon, 2011's 12th place and 2012's 13th place had some of the
        most loyal questioning their faith.

        The last three years have been a real treat for me personally. To have had such a dominant and enjoyable team to support was just fantastic.

        And once again, here we are, staring down the barrel of a possible sustained dip. But unlike previous years I mentioned, our club is packed to the rafters with talent - Mitchell, Ferguson, Hastings, SST, Napa, JWH, Cordner, Evans, Friend, SKD, Nikorima, Manu ............ and with SBW likely to return, how couldn't you be content?

        We have a lot to look forward to....just be patient.

          Yep been very spoilt for the last 3 years.

          Worst thing for me at the moment is that i can't see where our first win will come from until pearce is back.

          Cows- no
          Manly-no
          Warriors- maybe
          Souths- no
          Panthers-no
          Dragons-possibly
          Knights with pearce back-yes.

            That's all well and good, but when 4 of the 6 players you mention were lost through sheer stupidity by the club or player then it's still not an excuse.

            There is no reason to try and hypothetically day what would happen to the Broncos if they suffered such losses, because their management would never be stupid enough to let it happen.

            Souths will suffer similarly to us in 2017 though when Inglis, Reynolds, and Keary all walk out the door.

              We certainly didnt lose our fullback by choice and if we kept Maloney and Jennings we wouldve had to of shed over a million dollars worth of talent anyway because of this thing called the salary cap.

              We all knew the salary cap would bite us in the ass at some stage... it does to all the good teams. There's just a shit load of denial.

                Yep, Sheck was the only one they didn't want to lose. The rest: due to the cap it made sense to do it. Short term pain, long term gain.....

                  Moving forward we will be fine,as R6 mentioned the Salary cap was eventually going to bite..
                  The important thing is if we have a lean year our young core gain valuable experience and learn the rigours of First grade football..
                  As opposed to 2005,I don't think we will be down too long this time!

                    But getting rid of Maloney over Pearce? The brains trust was probably out partying on a cruise when that decision was made.

                      Maloney is a support player with limited organisational skills. Given all we have is young halves who are nothing more than support players until they develop their skills Pearce was the easy and obvious choice. Take the hate out of it.

                        For sure... media were all over how Canberra were without Sezer nd Austin. No disrespect to either, but Sam Williams (who had been shunted) is roughly as good as Sezer and Austin is no Pearce.

                        Raiders otherwise had their full team. JWH and Cords are NEEDED. Alas, I think that round 9 is gonna be too late to revive our season. However, we will possibly make the 8 with a late charge after they all return.

                        I love Maloney, but give Latrell time IMO. He kicks a LOT further than Maloney and the accuracy will come with experience. By mid-season I expect him to be looking pretty damn sharp.

                        TBH defence and kicking distance (often only like 35m off a line dropput, which isn't good enough, and puts us under the pump) were Maloney's flaws. Even Nikorima tackles better than Maloney.

                        ---

                        Come round 9 we will be a completely new team. JWH and Cords will bash up the opposition in the first 30. With 10 to go before half-time we'll sub on Evans, Napa and Nikorima with fresh legs (rather than Hendo, Vinnie and Moa)... and it'll be game on!

                          We shed talent meanwhile Souffs sign their second million dollar plus man.The core of their squad have also won a premiership which would increase a players market value.

                          I'm not convinced that we have no cap space.

                            I don't know if I've become mellow and worldly since I married that Texan supermodel but I am not worried or even mildly concerned about this poor start.

                              Their halves not starting put it to a level playing field, what put us in the box seat was them losing fensom after 5 min and did not make it back, then young croker didn't make it back after halftime, when BJ got 10 in the bin, we were playing a 12 man team with limited interchanges and players available. Yet we still had a fresh man on the bench, who we refused to utilise.

                              Raiders were much worse off than us yesterday, yet we lose with a 10 point lead against 12 men at one stage.

                              Very disappointing.
