  • Jarryd Hayne

THE Sydney Roosters refuse to give up hope of signing footy superstar Jarryd Hayne this year before the June 30 deadline to register players.
The club has purposely left $600,000 in this year’s salary cap, which would be more than enough to pay Hayne to play the second half of the season.
It would also make him available to play for the Blues in the third State of Origin game against the Maroons on Wednesday July 13 at ANZ Stadium.
Despite his constant denials about returning to the NRL, conversations between his manager Wayne Beavis and the Roosters are ongoing. Any suggestion that he might return home to Parramatta have been blown away by the club’s latest salary cap scandal.
There is also talk coach Brad Arthur is more concerned about strengthening other areas of his footy team rather than the fullback position.Despite their dreadful start to the season, the Roosters have deliberately held back on signing any new players to keep the cash available for Hayne. Most clubs in their position would be shopping now for new talent.
Hayne will return soon to San Francisco to rejoin the 49ers for their NFL pre-season camp. Beavis is hoping Hayne will get an early indication — by mid-June at the latest — from new coach Chip Kelly as for his plans with the former NRL superstar.
If unwanted by the 49ers it is considered unlikely he would be picked up by another franchise.
The Roosters are desperately waiting for the return of their two best forwards Boyd Cordner and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves. Their return from injury coupled with the possibility of Hayne joining the club on a three-year deal would certainly lift their hopes of a late season revival and charge for the finals.

    Makes perfect sense to me.
If Brisbane, parra , cantabery etc are under the cap, we must have a fair bit of leeway.

However , I really hope there's no truth to this rumour .
    For Bigchook's sake I mean.
Even though he defends the game managers, no Rooster supporter should go through that kind of suffering.

I have seen some stupid, idiotic and downright shitwitted recruitment decisions from this club over the years...Dale Shearer, Paul Vautin, Martin 'osteogenesis imperfecta' Offiah and Brett 'Even though I've met your father, you're still a bastard' Finch to name four but keeping money for what will be a 29 year old player who has trained in a vastly different role for 2 years is...well, ludicrous is the only word to describe it.

      SUPER DRAGON!

          Johnny be good.
I know you can think beyond the circle, and there's a hell of a lot of upside to signing this particular gridiron player.

Btw, I can defend the club on Shearer's signing as opposed to Finch. And the club wasn't responsible for Vautin's lack of effort. McGahan himself was hell-bent on the club securing fatty at the time.

Does that mean i don't have to run naked down Bondi Rd?

Apparently the package was worth 1.2 million a year.

Parra are working overtime in an attempt to convince the NRL to abuse the war chest stating that 1) Hayne is obviously great for business 2) He will not play for any other club!

            Hayne = Princess

Now where is my Hayne voodoo doll.

I have no insight or connections to what's really going on. All I know is that what other clubs have learned about running a football team Uncle Nick has already forgotten. Todd is waking up every morning and trying to work out ways how to screw us while shaving his noggin and we're putting in the hard yards to raise the proifessionalism of our great game. If is wasn't for the Roosters the game would be dead in the water. In terms of what's happening around us right now.... After 8 rounds in 2015 we were 3 from 8. If I were a betting man I'd be backing us to jag Jarryd Hayne, have a good crack at 2016 and welcome back Sonny. How or why I have no interest in, that's why i support this great club who has given me untold joy in following them for the past 42 years.

We're in this up to our eyeballs, time to believe, time to represent.

              Easts to Win!

How has he been training in a vastly different role for the past 2 seasons? Last time I checked a fullback's job was to catch the ball on the full and return it as far as possible, exactly what he's been training to do in the NFL. The guys is a natural rugby league player who has now developed his skills even further playing a different sport. You were probably one of the supporters who didn't want SBW either.

                  Great post, well said.
You don't need connections when you've got common sense and taste.

I agree. We've left 600k in the salary cap to hopefully sign someone who might be available by mid June and who hadn't played footy for 2 years? Sounds like something the titans would do.

                        I know.

It was absolute madness and a waste of money to sign SBW. How long was he out of the game for?

Who in their right mind would give Fergo a chance. The sponsors would be outraged!

So we like to take the odd risk.

Add Hayne to our current roster (when all the troops are back on deck) and where a good chance of winning the comp.

So we have 600k spare, would it not have been better spent on keeping roger or jimmy?

I'm afraid so, but I doubt anyone would hold you to it.

                              In their dreams...........
The Tits would probably sign Mick Cronin if he hinted at coming out of retirement.
