  • A thought... free points when false charges lead to absence/suspension?

SKD's 200th game got me thinking... I forget how many games he missed, but we suffered significant disadvantage last season thanks to Nova Peris' daughter.

Should the NRL have a stance where they suspend people as soon as somebody is charged (to give alleged victims benefit of the doubt) but compensate teams later on. Since it typically takes some months for the court matter to win up... I suggest that the team should start the next season with a few points as compensation for the disadvantage we suffered.

Just a thought... would it work? We're down on luck this season and it would help us get things back together I reckon. Maybe as a 200 game present?

itys a fair point Ism. there should be something. I dont think comp points are the answer but maybe a salary cap buffer. Lets say skd was on 300k per year. divide that by 27 rounds. 2 byes, 3 final. and that equils $11,111.00 PER ROUND. So if skids had 6 weeks off it $66,666.00 on top of our salary for next year. Or better still just allow the player to be innocent until proven guilty. maybe he should sue her for loss of earnings

You know SKD did not fined or stood down by the NRL after being charged by Police. Recently a few players have been charged by Police for both assault and DUI's however Mitchell Pearce did not assault anyone nor did the Police get involved in any manner...

So what I am saying is that the NRL believes comes tough on players who are caught on film doing stupid acts get suspended and fined but players who are charged by Police are still free to play? How is that fair?

          I love this idea.

Let's arrange to have half the team wrongfully accused and suspended now. That way we can start 2017 with enough points to be Minor Premiers without playing a game.

SKD wasn't suspended or stood down by the NRL. The games he missed was because he was not in an emotional and physical state to play the game of footy. Why should the NRL compensate us, or any other club for that matter, for that?? They can't control what happens in a player's private life.

It would be all great if it is a Roosters player or the Roosters team but if someone from Souths was in the same boat & the Roosters were playing them you would all be belly aching that player x from Souths should be put out until his court case & then you would all go bonkers if the NRL did suspend player x from Souths & then he was found not guilty & Souths were given 6 extra completion points. Absolutely ridiculous idea. What go's around comes around.

The NRL loves the grey areas. They can pick and choose who get's stood down and for how long. This gives some control over their business model. Dynasties are boring and bad for business.

Look at Auva'a. He pleaded guilty to assaulting his missus and was charged back in May 2014. He then played the remainder of the season and won the comp before being stood down for an extended period.

Burgess could've eaten a poodle that year and continued to play on.

                      "Sam's near death experience"

At the very least, he could have squirrel gripped its genitals. They caught him on camera doing that to a human, but he escaped with a minor reprimand.

Exactly. Shaun took a leave of absence as per medical advice. Yes, we are all incensed that he was put through this in the first place but unfortunately that was the hand that fate dealt him. Turn that argument on it's head, and then what? They start stripping points from clubs whose players are found guilty of crimes? Good luck taking away Manly's current 2 points then if Liam Knight is found guilty on 20 April, which is his court date. I wanna know if he will be fined $125k as well...
