It targets your own personal browsing history so you will see different ads to everyone else. I have adblocker on my own computers so it doesn't affect me but if I log in at work, it comes up with ads for David Jones and Sportscraft as it knows when I've been looking at fashion sites. When I lived in Melbourne, it came up with Storm memberships

If it bothers you that much, just Google "Adblocker" for your browser and device and you can install it for free.

edit: I look at fashion sites at work because I am expected to wear clothes in my job.

He probably just uses standard Google ads? In which case, they 'know' who you are and are only giving you Souffs ads because you constantly Google 'South Sydney Rabbitohs' and visit their website (and/or you live in Redfern?)

I use ad blockers, tracker blockers and avoid Google like the plague, so I get no ads.

Mine are boring, it comes up with real estate around St Peters or Port Macquarie or accommodation options in San Francisco or Los Angeles.

'Adblockers' deprive revenue sources from the people who need it most - independent or small operators who rely on ad revenue to keep their operations going. It frustrates me no end when people complain about ads but at the same time are not willing to pay for the content they consume.

Chris would get maybe $0.50 to $2 a month from the ads (if that) and I can bet nobody's clicking them so it'll be minimum dollar (Google used to provide alright pay-outs but they have crippled the amount of money you can earn SEVERELY to the point where only major sites get anything).

IMO the inconvenience outweighs any potential profits. FWIW I'd give Chris a few bucks towards the hosting each month if he had an unobtrusive 'donate here' link...

They keep pretty tight databases on everybody that are accurate enough to identify who you are, what footy team you support, what political views you have, what job you have, what your hobbies are...etc. I peraonally want to minimise the amount of private info that big corporations know about me. If I turned the ad blockers off, Google would still be scratching their heads about which ads to target to me because tracker blockers are a different beast...

I largely agree the Adsense aint the best way to go.

If I were Chris I would be ditching Adsense and reaching out to a handful of key businesses with a compelling low-cost 12 month ad package. If those businesses happen to run by fanatical Rooster supporters, all the better.
