He had nothing in the tank before being replaced around the 60th minute, may have been a few minutes later. Even after a 10 minute rest, when he came back on he missed the first tackle he attempted, stone cold. He only made 16 tackles all match but had nothing left.. The guys problems are simple, his core fitness is way down from what is required of a starting first grade backrower. He also looks soft, there is no muscle tone whatsoever and he lacks a punch in defence as a result. Let's not even get into his inability to create any second phase or simply pass the ball. I would have preferred Isaac Liu at 5/8, at least he has some semblance of footballing nous and passing ability. That said Niko should have played.. We just put even more pressure on Hastings by pairing him with Guerra.

Also hilarious are people who thought Niko should have just come on and carved up when he came on so late in the game. By then we were down by 6, our team was out on their feet. There was no go forward from the pack, and when Guerra came back on, he once again got in the way. Guerra should rotate with Liu at Lock and play no more than 40 minutes, he cannot play longer without fading badly. It also keeps him in midfield so hopefully he can stay out of the way in attack.
    excellent post.

I am sick of how soft Guerra is in defence. not only does he miss tackles but when he does manage to not fall off a tackle, he never ever dominates in a tackle and instead the offensive player drags forward several metres and often gets a quick play the ball.

I also remember in the second half against Canberra a few weeks ago, he managed to fall off a tackle when we had Canberra inside their own 20 and then Guerra got up and then had another attempt to tackle the raider (on the very same play) and someone he fell off him again a second time whilst the Canberra player managed to move the ball forward about 15 metres. As usual someone else managed to eventually tackle the raider player because Guerra fell off the tackle against the same player twice in the same play the ball play.

But. of course, Guerra hogged it and got tackled.
yes exactly right, half of the crowd around me at the time yelled out "inside ball" so everyone was able to see the opening except for Guerra and of course Guerra stuffed it up by hogging it.

Out of all our forwards Guerra would be least likely to succeed at 5/8 I feel. With his passing game, or lack thereof, I'm surprised he was chosen there.

We had a right hand edge of Taukeiaho, Ferguson and SKD who looked dangerous when they got early ball, but opportunities were few and far between.

Fergo was dominating Walker every time he got the ball yet it was only a handful of times. Taukeiaho running 1 on 1 at Walker could have been massive for us but Guerra have him no chance. Hard not to blame Pearce but fark me Guerra at 5/8...please.

You guys are forgetting that with a goalkicker we actually won that game against Manly, and if not for Lyon intimidating the young ref it would have been a 2 try margin.

So with the very imperfect Guerra at 5/8 we did more than enough to win.

We will be in for another cricket score against us this week with a midget back at 5/8.

That was in spite of Guerra playing 5/8, not because of it.

He was never put there to actually play 5/8. He was put there to stop leaking points and because we wouldnt miss his non-existent go-forward. Coach put a shit load of unnecessary pressure on Hastings. Obviously Pearce's has forced his hand but still an interesting move.

                This.

He also was put there in order so that Fergo wasn't crowded on the right.
Making Steve Naughton look like Vince Mellars...

Does anyone remember how awesome Guerra was from mid 2013 through all of 2014?

What the **** happened? Was he a beneficiary of being under the radar, with SBW occupying all of the defensive attention?

The big mistake last week was Nikos timing....He shouldve been brought on with 15 to go when we were on top of them .Wouldve been a different ball game .That was the only tactical mistake .Instead Robbo brought him on late in the second half when Manly mounted there come back .

Maybe, but he was one of our best during our shit years in 2011/2012. I think his breakout year has caused him to be marked a hell of a lot more. With a young halves pairing it's hard to get him quality ball so that we can combat this.

I think he needs to go back to the middle and let SST run wild on the edges.

He was still a massive hog then. But at least he ran hard.

Only stands out in a good team. He's a follower not a leader.
SST and SKD on the other hand, are our real leaders. They excel despite playing in a shit team. They lead by example.
Very disappointing with Geurra. He should be doing much better.

Could explain why his focus has not been on the footy recently ...
I really hope our boys fire up this w/e, otherwise some of our youngsters are going to need a shrink to get rid of the mental scars!
