  • Smith changes the club's structure

    http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/spo...-1226065184085

The Daily Telegraph has been told Sydney Roosters players are frustrated at Smith's decision to change the club's structure.

    >>>>> >>>>> >>>>>

Isn't that what he was hired to do?

How is he changing the club's structure?

" Former Test star Greg Alexander called the Cowboys match for Fox Sports and described the Roosters as "dreadful and embarrassing." "

This line should be read to the players. Coming from a commentator that is generally Easts friendly it carries some weight as far as I'm concerned.

As for the princesses who are frustrated at Smith's changes, I've got plenty of cement available.

If I was a first grader and was paid for my services, this would serve as motivation for the rest of my career.

It just seems to me that the players don't give a shit though...'the boys' in the side - JWH, FPN, SKD, Toddy, Friendy and to a lesser extent Cherro, endorse this notion. If that lot get's up to the task, the rest will follow - ala last season.

Our defence is definitely a massive improvement from last year.

        Our attack is a joke.

He is a complete idiot for allowing both our attack and our defence structure to be altered completely (not just in a minor fashion) from last year when we made the grand final. Only a lunatic would allow that to happen.

A very poor article if you ask me.
I am not doubting things have been changed, but how about discussing the changes etc.
It smacking of internet forum trawlling at its best.

I agree with you Fred, while you have to have some tricks up your sleeve for later in the year, why change something that is working ?

Does the structure from last year really work KB??? According to some here, last season was a fluke

Either last year was spot on and smith was stupid for changing

              OR

Lastyear was a fluke and a change by smith is what is needed.

(btw, not saying you are wrong or right KB, i just wanted to add that point to the debate)

Muz, I think this may be the nub of the matter. Smith was brought in to re-build - hence the 4 year contract.

Last year at halftime in the second last round against Manly we were shot and looked like we would miss the 8. Instead, history shows it went the other way and we made the grand final.

In the euphoria that followed, we all believed we had turned the corner and were on the up. In hindsight it was a false dawn and there is still work to be done.

Smith needs to be given time to do the job he was brought here to do. There are no quick fixes as much as the 'sack the coach' brigade might wish there were.

Any change can work if everyone is on board.

Last year at round 12, did you believe that we would change??? i seem to recall alot of people going nuts about Smith putting Carney at Fullback, it proved a master stroke in timing for smith to move him to 5/8 when he did.

So Fred, do you believe last year was a fluke?

Last year was no fluke. Smith is an expert at coming second.

Changing structures is not the issue, changing cultures is! I don't give a fark if the players feel "frustrated" in round bloody 11, they are paid to play and win, not sulk about changes. It's a lazy, bullshit, rest on my laurels excuse imo. Hasler changed Manly with a brand new rookie halfback and they sit second on the ladder = professional attitude, we are party central = last.

                            Chook.

The one area that Smith has total autonomy and responsibility for is the starting line-up.

After one & a half seasons playing on the wing the experiment with BJ Leilua MUST END IMMEDIATELY.
Yes the kid is explosive and has skills but he is not a winger for mine! He is not a Manu Vatuvei or Taniela Tuiaki, never will be despite
Smith trying to turn him into this type of winger. Why else does he persist? If the reason is because they have no other options for a replacement winger then enter Mark Kheirallah.
I would prefer to see BJ coming off the bench as a forward substitute. A future option is the centres where he played and represented at a schoolboy level. Would however need some solid coaching, maybe in the off season and play some trials next year.

Regretably, Justin Carney is not a centre. Until Linnett returns Smith should give Willie Mataka the number 3 guernsey.

Anyway, got that off my chest!
