  • Is Our Current Position Pearces Fault?

    Everybody was venting after tonight..

Is it fair to lay the blame for our current predicament on the stupid actions of Captain Pearce?

Do we need to blame somebody? Seriously... will it get us off the bottom of the ladder if we burn a different person each week?

It hurts losing, but it's something you've gotta deal with as a fan. IMO this season's just one of those slow seasons where we'll probably miss the 8. There's many reasons... these include:
          - A kick@rs3 youth policy has led to us blooding a bunch of inexperienced youngsters (5 in this game?)
          - Due in part to us backing the youth (and maybe in part to us stupidly thinking we would sign Hayne) we lost RTS, Maloney and Jennings, and are now $600,000+ under the cap.
          - Pearce was an idiot and got himself suspended for 9 rounds. GOOD WORK STUPID!!! However, if he were playing we'd probably still be losing due to other factors which I'll go into.
          - Due to nobody's fault... Cords and JWH got injured so our youngsters have had to play without our 2 biggest forwards.
          - Oh... then Copley and SST got injured... greeeat! Oh and Vinnie Leuluai!
          - Due to th new interchange rules this has all been compounded because inexperienced people who are trying to learn the game as they play (without the seniors there to help out) are getting SUPER tired, and having to take on more than they should be expected to handle (AND COPING QUITE WELL TO BE FAIR!!)
          - Despite all this, we'd gotten within a try of winning during 4 games now!!! This is at least in some part due to rotten luck... and if you want to be synnical, could in some cases come down to reffing errors. But meh... they even out I think.

I'm no pro footy player but I think one of life's lessons is that occasionally luck just doesn't go your way! We've had a perfect storm of rotten luck (and in part rotten planning/risks that haven't yet bared fruit). There's so many things to blame but REALLY... you play with the team you've got! We're getting better every week, and have just hit a 3-4 week period where there's a bit of luck (playing rubbish teams at the same time as a few players come back).

PATIENCE!!! Yes our season is probably over. We probably won't make the 8! But WHO KNOWS? Win the next 3 and we're looking at:
          - JWH, Cords and Pearce being back
          - SST being back
          - The team starting to gain some confidence/momentum

Who knows what will happen if we can do that? Instead of our current team we will have something like the following when we finish the season:
          1. Latrell
          2. Toops (maybe Burgess? Anybody watching him?)
          3. Copley
          4. Fergo
          5. SKD
          6. Pearce
          7. Hastings
          8. JWH
          9. Friend
          10. Napa
          11. Cords
          12. Guerra
          13. SST

          14. Evans
          15. Liu
          16. Maubs
          17. Nikorima

          ---

It will all be subtle!!! Our starting team will be THAT bit better and our subs will also be THAT bit better! Losing by 1-6 points MIGHT become a thing of the past!! Tonight we did good... there was a lot for us to be proud of IMO. Our ball skills in the rain (and willingness to play confident, positive footy) were really respectable!

          Patience...

            Well said Ism.
It's hard to watch but it is what it is. "Fans" are always going to want to blame someone, nature of the beast.

I think if you have Pearce there we'd have won a couple of the closer ones (Canberra, Manly, Warriors( although I still think the stronger teams such as the Cowboys do a number on us.

We've lost a lot of close ones due to inexperience and Pearce could have helped steer the ship and lead us to victory during those close games. I hope our season isn't over, we can drop something like 4-6 games for the rest of the year and still make the eight so at least we have a small opportunity.

                Sh*t happens.

No use pointing the finger. We've done well being within range on a number of games when all things are considered.

Pearce will add plenty to the side when he returns as will JWH and Cordner.

Our season will officially launch come round 9. Hopefully it's not too late!

Broncos and Cowboys are clearly on another level and will be hard to stop.

Yes it could have been different if Pearcey was in....probably nil wins.

We can't blame Pearce. It's a mystery to me on why the NRL would suspend him. His actions only affected himself, not the club or the brand, only himself. Maybe blame the NRL for always wanting to make an example of people over nothing?

I blame JWH and Cordner for being soft c0cks.
Also our 1, 6 and 7 for not being up to NRL standard after 7 weeks together.

I will start by saying we are not a one man team. It is not the dog botherers fault that Cordner did his pec It is not The dog botherers fault that Hargreaves did his ACL. However the Hargreaves injury was known before the incident and he knew we woere already without him.

The dog botherer knew we were missing Hargreaves knew we had lost Sheck Maloney (not sure of Jennings) and knew we had a lack of depth in the halves and lacked leadership .What does our club captain do ? He carrIes on in an unprofessional manner in the off season which culminated in him embarrassing the club his family and himself, which results in the club losing their startig halfback for the 1st 8 matches.

Let us not bury our heads in the sands or delude ourselves here. Our current position is very much a result of the dog botherers off field antics We have lost 4 of the 6 games by less than 6 points and I am of the firm belief with our starting halfback we win 3 of these if not 4 with our starting halfback in the team.

So my answer is YES Mitchell Pearce is in a huge way responsible for the position we find ourselves in He has single handedly ****ed this season for his team mates the club sponsors and supporters
FCUK YOU MITCHELL PEARCE thanks for your effort and leadership thus far this year

I don't think it's Mitchell Pearce's fault at all, if only because the punishment was manifestly unfair. $175,000 (or whatever it was) and eight games for that? No leniency even though he put himself up for scrutiny in front of the media and answered all questions honestly - in fact, apparently, that added to the NRL's ire. They thought he was playing the PR game. PR, or not, those questions were answered honestly and with humility and if the NRL thinks he was insincere they can get ****ed.
