  • symonds and waqa to play

This was posted on the sydney roosters official website today

Brad Fittler has put his words into action this week by selecting Toyota Cup captain Tom Symonds to make his NRL debut on Saturday night against the Penrith Panthers.
After last week’s match Fittler said he may well have to look toward youth in a bid to spark his side into action.
The late withdrawal of Mitchell Aubusson, due to his ongoing back complaint, has opened the door for last year’s under 20s player of the year to replace the utility on the bench.
It is a proud moment for the 20-year-old Bondi United junior, a local club founded by his grandfather, as he becomes the 1092nd player to don the Tricolours.
“I’m really excited, really nervous too,” a joyful Symonds explained.
“I came into training after last week’s match and Freddy came up to me on Tuesday and had a chat. He said that I’d probably get a game this week.
“I told the family to keep it on the down-low but that didn’t really work. I’ve been getting calls and texts all week.
“I just want to get out there on Saturday night and do my job well for the team,” he said.
Symonds began his career running around local fields as a 5-year-old before coming through the junior representative system to become the second local junior to graduate to first grade after Luke Ricketson did back in 1991.
The Roosters have also handed big Fijian born forward Stanley Waqa a spot on the bench for the round 11 match.
Waqa will become Easts 1093rd player and the eighth debutant used by Fittler this season.

This is great for these two young boys, hopefully they have a good run. Any thoughts on the decision thats been made to put these guys in first grade???

Potentially 3 rangas in the side, somebody call David Middleton to find out when that last happened.

I did actually watch last week's phantom, just to see if I am as biased as I fear.
