I could see Hastings start with PEarse. Then when Friend needs a break MAtterson goes to 5/8 and SoH goes to dummy half.

We need our kicker on the field for 80 mins

I cannot comment about the pressure of fg game which is a whole new level but they practiced kicking for a least an hour or so after a game of tackle or touch. Some of those fellas went on to play first grade and while we are are at it a couple of the more freakish ones were kicking goals from the sidelines as well as 40-50m out as 15 year olds.

Fox Sports ( James Hooper) is reporting that Hastings may well be dropped for this game. I personally doubt it will happen - the last thing Robbo would want is another completely new halves pairing not to mention the fact he'd loose his best goal kicker. Hastings will hopefully go well once he is relieved of the organisational duties.

Who's they? I was talking to Cockadoodledoo when I made that comment about kicking in first grade. And for the record I have seen plenty of guys bang them over at training but are flat out hitting the side of a barn when it matters. I would guess that Pearce is in a similar category

Are those guys full time professional footballers who train 6 days a week? Somehow I don't think so. I doubt Pearce could even kick them well that at training, if e couldm we wouldn't have had Boyd Cordner as Maloney's back up. At first grade level, a halfback should be able to cope with the pressure of kicking goals in an NRL situation, after all he has to catch, pass, kick in general play and tackle also under NRL pressure.

I have distinct memories of the state of origin camp down at Coogee three or four years ago and Freddy was trying to train Pearce how to kick for short distances. I remember distinctly, as will my father who was there, Freddy kept yelling at Pearce to 'Keep (his) f'ing head down when you kick'. I don't suspect much has changed.

Sorry should have clarifed, they were the fellas Cockadoodledoo referred to. Some of them kicked goals in games from acute angles as well. Well most didn't go on with footy careers due to lack of money, desire, parents expectations with education verses footy but seriously a first grade half should be able to slot a goal from near in front.

Nowadays they use bloody kicking tees now....the guys Cockadoodle refers to including himself would use a bit of dirt or dig a small hole in the ground and bang a leather ball over more often than not. He also was a damn good goal kicker for junior team he played in.

Ok so all half backs should kick goals, and ours is the worst because he had one kick and missed it. The other half backs can all kick goals better then Pearce even though none of them kick and Pearce can't even kick them at training even though you have never actually been to training and watched him. Also any person who plays in the NRL should be able to handle the pressure of goal kicking because hey, they play NRL. Did I miss anything?
