  • The hit on Burgess

    1. Unlike the pathetic Knights cat who tried to milk a penalty from Napa's harmless tap on his shoulder, young Joe stood straight up even though he had been illegally whacked. Had it not been for the fact that the referee noticed him stumbling around in backplay, there would not have even been a penalty.

    2. Nobody gets sent off these days, I know, but the result of this incident was that the Roosters played with 16 men while the Knights played with 17. I think a free interchange is insufficient compensation.

I was always brought up to get to your feet and play the ball. If you stayed down it showed weakness and there was no way you could let your opposition know that you were hurt. I am proud of the stand our club has made on this matter

Glad it was noticed how Baby John manned up and didn't lie down no matter how concussed he was

Yes it was a bad hit and you could see intent from the Knights player to hit with the shoulder on the head. A sin bin at least was warranted.

I am unsure how a shoulder charge to the head is not a sin bin at the very least in this era of banning the shoulder charges and being more concerned with concussion safety. We lost a player for the evening and Newcastle should have lost theirs.

Imagine the furore (you don't have to try hard) if Dylan or JWH did the same thing to say, hmmm, a dragqueens player?
Well done to Joe for getting up and not doing a "Nathan Ross" or a "Euan Aitken".

It shows how the NRL rules are completely stupid. How a player who is genuinely fouled can miss receiving a penalty if they get straight back up allowing the bunker to choose to ignore the tackle, but a player who is not hurt can lie down and 'earn' a penalty for their team when the bunker decides a foul must have occurred simply because the lying down gets them all excited. And as has been said, ridiculous we lose a player and the Knights player gets to stay on the field.

                Unquestionable sin bin.

As far as I am aware, apart from punching you can't be sin binned for foul play.
I think its wrong and that the rule should be changed.

What a wonderful depiction showing the disparity in ethical coaching standards between Robbo and his counterparts.

Maybe... Next time there's a brawl, just drop the shoulder on someone's face and it won't be a sent off... Lol!

If it's foul play, you should get a second free interchange, after 15 mins, if the player is unable to return to the field.
That would certainly help any team with only 16 players.

His attitude to attempt to get up and play the ball said it all! The diver got his just desserts in the 2nd half when he dropped the ball to let in a try (after a fair amount of ribbing from our crowd!)
