Lets not forget that late in the game Mick Crocker (playing for us) was sin binned for a "lifting tackle" that didn't even warrant a charge. It was yet another night of the refs giving souffs all the help they could to keep them in the game. We saw it again when Braith got belted a couple of seasons later.

I heard the very same thing.

tbh I think football would be the major reason.. The way he played he would have taken a lot of punishment but it was probably off the field that was the final trigger..
