On the flip side, maybe we don't care? Season's over and we have a stack of telented/motivated juniors who are excited about playing 1st grade, regardless of the results. If people are getting negative and don't wanna train hard/be positive when times are tough then let them leave (if that's what they want.) No use forcing them to stay. Punt them, reward those who rock up with a good attitude each week and keep that money in the bank for a time when the right player shows up.

It's like buying a house right now. I have the money for one but I don't HAVE to buy any house just because it comes on the market. Might as well relax, save my coin and wait for the right fit rather than feeling I HAVE to move out of our 1br apartment just because we have a baby. You don't NEED a big house. Babies can go and play in the park or whatever, while we save money and wait for the right option to come along.
So Brendan Elliot is the baby and Newcastle is the park in that analogy right? I think you lost me..

It is the best for Elliott to get a chance to play first grade. Joseph Manu played for Wyong on the weekend and I imagine the club see him as the better prospect (I agree) and he could be a chance of a First grade call up later in the year.

The point of my example was that just because you can afford something, doesn't mean you need to have it. You've gotta weigh up your circumstances and choose what suits you best...

The club is the party handing over the money for services (rather than property) in this situation. I used houses as an anaolgy because the houses I can afford cost about as much as footy players get paid per year

Wouldn't it be bad if Elliott scores the winning try against us in the Grand Final this year?

Probably offered more game time and got the blessing from the head office to go.
I saw him as a fill in anyway. Good luck to the kid, played well for us when given the oppurtunity

We must have something in the pipeline. It's not as if we have much depth in the three-quarters.

Decisions and judgement have been extremely poor. No clear and transparent explanation to fans as to why Maloney and Jennings were let go whilst we still has $600k left. I don't think RTS threat was ever completely our the radar when signed with the Warriors (something we may regret over time). We seemed to be continually hung up on a pipe dream of chasing SBW and the Hayne plane but missing what is actually in front of us. We had the playing roster to success. Did we get too greedy?? Now the apparent signing of Gordon and the release of Elliott. What is the strategy? We need to settle on and develop the team. As a fan, I'm just so frustrated and unclear as to what we are trying to achieve.
Completely agree. Losing RTS and more so Maloney in that he desperately wanted to stay was terrible from our club. We have not replaced players and are $600k under the salary cap waiting for SBW or Hayne to come back yet both have rejected us. Now we start to release players mid season when we have injuries and no depth and no incoming players...I always trust the club has a plan but this seasons results and lack of player recruitment is a real worry

In his limited first grade chances, the Bondi Hipster has been very solid in the areas that our other threequarters have struggled with: defence and defensive reads; errors and ball handling. Added to this he has also been a good finisher and no trouble off the field.
Because of the trouble our other threequarters have had in these areas (and injuries) we've had to stick forwards in the centres to stem the bleeding.
He's not spectacular, but he's stood out because he can defend, seems to not panic, seems to be able to think for himself, and doesn't make stupid errors at crucial times.
Says a lot for our backline this year that you can stand out for those reasons....
                        Hope we've got a plan......

I liked him. A solid, no-nonsense, reliable footballer.

Every team needs a few like Elliott. Low cost, dependable players. You can't have a superstar in every position, and cheap, solid, NRL capable talent is not in abundance in the real world.

I wish him all the best.

I reckon, ............with all the shit around this year, there must be a pony.

Latrell would make a first class strike centre if we landed a super dooper fullback.

Is Gordon going to be that fb, or is Gordon gonna replace Toups on the wing? It was in the paper that Mansour may be on his way. with Burgess, SKD, Fergo and Elliot (now

gone), even Copley was a winger at the broncos, WE have an amazing number of wingers. Maybe Hodges will come back for another year in the RWB.

                                .
Still haven't heard conformation of Gordon's signing?
But if so, It'd be beneficial I reckon.
Give him a year, see how the cards fall, swing a cat around the lounge room, and see if anything closer to the super dooper category turns up.
