Whoever is responsible for the recruitment and retention decisions/strategy over the past 18 months should be moved on from the club. We lost RTS due to taking a chance and not offering him $500-600k at the end of 2014. We then allowed Maloney - our best half since Fittler - to leave the club based on not wanting to keep him around for 3 years. Both of those decisions were bat shit insane and downright dumb, and someone at the club should have paid the price for them.

If we don't look back at these dumbass decisions we'll be doomed to just make them all over again.

Whatever asshole decided jimmy wasn't worth 3 years particularly better do the honorable thing and top himself when the Sharks lift the trophy year

I think overall our recruitment over the past 5 or so years has been pretty good.

Have a look at the 2013 team and count how many made their first grade debut as Roosters. Not many clubs can beat that.

Looking at it your way, then it means that you take things rationally and will accept what ever happens this year so we won't hear from you complaining about how bad things may get. Most fans want to see results NOW... Next year is too far away and there is no guarantee that who we are developing will eventually turn out to be premiership winners for us. I want to see results now but I know that management have stuffed things up by letting Maloney and Jennings go. Can't help to think that this year is over for us but I keep hoping for a miracle.

There is no reason to think Maloney doesn't have another 2 seasons left in him watching him play this year.

And besides, why is playing 2016-17 without any decent halves better than playing 2018 with a brilliant but a little over the hill one?

As for that 2013, yep we had a lot of guys who debuted for us in that side. We also had several absolutely key mercenary players brought in that very year. We are now 3 seasons since, and the team is completely different. Much like it will be in 2019 when we would have lost Maloney had we given him an extra 12 months like he wanted. There is probably a 5-10% chance that all the youth we are bringing through now will be at the roosters by that stage too. That's not a slight on the club, that's just reality. mind you, it certainly couldn't breed much in the way of long term loyalty by showing them that we will kick their ass to the curb as soon as they sprout a couple gray hairs

I haven't been complaining about the team's standing this year at all. More so about the bunker rulings and individual players not performing.

I can understand fans wanting the Roosters to be the best all of the time (myself included) however in a salary cap era it is not always possible.

It looks as though banking on Hastings was a mistake but that's the risk they took.

I agree we as a club, we need to move forward in regards to James Maloney. It maybe a mistake now but we have a small sample size of where Jackson Hastings and Ryan Matterson are going with their careers.

Lets judge it after the 3 year contact is completed.

The clubs recruitment for 2013, was built on clearing cap space from 2011-12 to accommodate multiple superstars to work with our young core group of players.

2012 We finished 13th and 7 points out of the top 8 and we blooded key rookies who helped us in 2013 -

Daniel Tupou, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck debut in 2012, Boyd Cordner and Aiden Guerra establish themselves as First graders by playing 15 and 18 games respectively.

2016 is a building block year in the same sense.

We have lost in our retention, but we're also sitting on one hell of a talent in Latrell Mitchell, potentially an unstoppable piece moving forward. Ryan Matterson and the emergence of a livewire like Conor Watson.

We're the Roosters, we're taking a step back to eventually again challenge for the top 4 and Premiership.
