Been a crap year, but came across this bit of nostalgia ...back from a good period for us

Thanks, Hawkeye. It was a different game back then. Loved all the passing and non stop action.

Loved the way Artie picked up Russell Mullins and used his head as a tent spike. Mullins just got up and played the ball.

You can see why the 10m rule sort of screwed the game.Back then teams played with a lot of depth setting up upt o 30m deep in a play. Where now its all flat ..forwards easily run 7-10m then kick and chase.
Prefer the old game and less controvery because there wasnt any smart asses making a zillion rule changes .
Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe

The lack of wrestle in each tackle is most notable.

ifr they had the bunker back then it would take 30mins per decision due to having to rewind the film, frame by frame

That's why i always thought cliffy was the best 5/8, no better short ball in the game.

Thanks for the youtube Hawkeye, it also led me to another game I had been looking for for years, even though we lose this one it was a mighty effort.

Wow! Down to 12 men after 3 minutes and down to 11 at one stage. Got beat by a point in the end! Didn't watch it all but thats pretty gutsy considering they were minor premiers and beaten grand finalists

Prop Ian Baker in the 74 clip one tough player . Artie gave Boffa Baker the mantle of the funniest team mate ever .

The 2nd meeting between Easts and Manly in 1982 was far better.

Easts v Manly in 1987 semi was a classic. The most brutal games of football I have ever witnessed.

It was one of the gutsiest efforts I have ever seen from an East team, the first Manly try when East were down to 11 men came off a forward pass in the lead up, the pass from Ribot to Simon Booth was forward then the pass from Mark Broadhurst to Max Krilich also looked suspect, amazing how some things never change, lol.. I remember when leaving the ground how some Manly fans were in stunned silence.
