  • Who is the best hooker and/or best prospective hooker in our team?

Don't get me wrong, i've been a big Jake Friend far for some time. However questions must now be asked.

Is is just the captaincy weighing him down,or has he peaked and is he on a permanent decline like Robbie Farah? Will he continue to get slower?

The role is CRITICAL in the modern era.

Is he the best option in our squad, or should Peace, Watson or someone else be blooded in the position?

I would like to see Hastings go back to the bench next season and fill in for Jake when he is being rested ( atleast 30 mins ) with the view of him being our next number 9, he did it quite well last season.

I can't see him being a 9 at nrl level. I think the defensive workload would be too much for him. He's not big enough.
I could see Watson turning into a 9 though. He has a more solid frame then Hastings.
I always thought Pearce would make a good 9 too

Without doubt, Jake is the best hooker in our team. However, he's better at defence than attack.

IMO this style compliments our squad. Jake can tire out the big men by putting in a massive defensive effort, and then let a young utility come on in the last 15 of each half to create stuff.

But I mean... Pearce isn't a hooker (or a prospective hooker) and Jake is the best hooker I know of in the club. Suggesting otherwise is a farce IMO.

Pearce is our best number 7 and has to stay there but I think he would have been an outstanding 9.

That dickhead Matty Johns in the Tele today saying Pearce should be NSW hooker.

I picked up that rag at the cafe - don't shoot me!

I would say that Friend is still our best hooker option but he needs to get his act together. Throughout his career he has been pushed towards being an 80 minute player. Personally I think 60 minutes would make him much more effective. The real problem in my opinion is getting a bench player in at hooker for 20 minutes or so. Robbo seems unwilling to do it. In the past we have seen him not take Friend off at all if we are under the pump. What I really hate is at the moment (happened last match) is when the Watson type of player comes on and Friend is moved to lock or second row. I feel he is very ineffective in this role. He makes a lot of tackles but he never hurts anyone. Do we really need the little fella taking hit ups? Give him a farking spell and lets get some fresh legs on the field.

I would like to see Watson own the interchange hooker role in 2017.

I used to think Pearce would be a better option at hooker than Friend but I have come to realise Pearce is our best option at halfback.
Watson to me is not built solid enough to play hooker so for now I think Jake stays & they start blooding Garvey. Garvey & his brother at the Dogs are tough blokes they have come from a hard background & could easily handle FG IMO.

I'm not really familiar with Garvey. Do people rate him a chance of making our top 17 next year? We have a lot of spine players around the fringes at the moment

Somebody has to replace Farrah next year, and I reckon that Pearce will make a great hooker at club and State level.

If he is fit I think he will play half back for the Roosters & NSW with Peats to play hooker for NSW if he is fit.

I think that Garvey is going to be our best option in the very near future.. Friend doesn't seem to be a very popular bloke

Nikorima was earmarked for the "no.14" position until the Pearce debacle.

As for Hastings, we won't have to worry as he won't be wearing the tricolours.
