  • Jake Friend

Our captain was the heir apparent to Cam Smith not that long ago.

Now he is the heir apparent to Kurt Sherlock.

He has gone backwards at a rate of knots this season. It's only that Guerra and Fergo are so bad that he keeps kind of under the radar.

With five minutes left in the first half at 10-10 (by some miracle) we were getting great momentum. We were forcing line drop outs and mistakes. We were camped on their line. Then Friend goes the wrong way and passes a lollypop over two forwards standing still and they intercept before scoring right on half time. We could have gone in with a lead at half time against all the odds and set up a great second half. Instead, as usual for this season, we went in at half time with our tails between our legs.

Forget the two bunker howlers (the Toups one is possibly the worst I have seen this season), the dropped balls, the kicks out on the full and the paper-thin defence out wide - that play as much as anything cost us the game.

    It's just not good enough.

He is a massive liability to our team at the moment and is far from captain material

The challenge is - who do we replace him with?
I thought Watson did well at 6 and deserves to keep his spot there!

The forward passes. The bad kicks.

When Jake went off for his concussion test, Matterson went into dummy half, everything seemed quicker for that brief period

Sherlock at least chipped over the top and re-gathered against a star studded Broncos team, during our dark days.

            He also kicked goals.

            Friend just drives us mad.

The Farah option doesn't seem as stupid now.

Would have been handy for 2 seasons until we find a long term replacement.

We don't have anyone to replace him with.

We all know how good Friend is and how hard he works in defense. His best years were when he wasn't captain or co-captain and was touted as the best hooker after Smith. Sometimes the responsibility to lead can change a person for the worse. Too much weight on his shoulders. If Trent is going to keep with this experiment, I can't see any improvements in leadership or decision making next year.

I thought Matterson was laughable out of dummy half. No farking clue.

Jake is a very weak link in our team right now. He should be a leader and not a liability.

I've had enough of him, one of the worst hookers in the comp by a long way

Yep and kicks goals better than anybody else in our team.

Friend is clueless at the moment. Go back to the previous week when it was 18all against Parra and he goes for the glory play trying to score from dummy half and loses the ball. Parra march downfield and score the match winner. He offers very little in attack and is another David Stagg in defence. I watched Garvey in the 20's Origin game and he wasn't anything inspiring either. I think we need to have a good look at Hastings as a possible 9.

Not sure I agree with that, anyone would be better than him. Heck even Aubbo can do a better job at hooker than friend.
