Yes Marty Gurr had a marvellous 1983 season with Easts and even played State Of Origin that year so I cant work out why Laurie Freier resented him, sadly he went to the Vermin in 1984 before moving on to Manly in 1985.
Freier's first act as coach was to replace Ayliffe with Hastings as captain.
I remember him saying he didn't want Fulton's captain running his team.
Never heard a direct comment from him explaining why he moved Gurr on, but was told at the time that he thought the NSWRL's proposed rule changes would make the bomb obsolete, thus reducing one of Gurrs strengths. Sounds ridiculous , but when you consider some of his other decisions .............................
Freier would get my vote for worst coach we've had, if it wasn't for Fairfax.

I must admit ive always found the concept of specialist talent identifiers a bit funny.
Has Sully, the supposed doyen, ever pulled on a boot?#We Stand with ourJewish community#

Well wadda ya know.
Speak of the devil, and then he lobs on the couch with Sterlo.
For those who missed it , it was riveting stuff. We found out some of the secrets of the greatest talent scout in the game.
Sterlo was in his best Daryl Sommers interviewing form, pissing in Cleal's pocket and begging for insights into what make a famous talent scout tick.
He mentions that Cleal's greatest success was Jamie Lyon and asked how that went down.
Apparently Cleal received orders to go and secure this Lyon character as another talent scout had planned to sign him up the next day.
Cleal says "Duuuuuhhhh, ok " , and arming himself with Parramatta's cheque book, drives off to "discover" Jamie Lyon.
There was some confusion when he arrived as Lyon was wearing a different number to what was listed in the programme, but our hero sorted that out with the help of the locals.
So perhaps we should forgive Cleal for all his sins, bad attitude and lack of loyalty.

I like the bloke.
And he loves The Mitches.
Sully can not be credited nor blamed for the signing of puppy love, Gould and Stuart can take the responsibility, maybe they would like to continue their association with him and trade for Sezer, Austin or Cleary
