  • Why didn't we sign Hayne?

I've been travelling through Europe and missed the whole Hayne Titans/Parra signing fiasco so apologies for starting this thread but wanted to know.

Anyone know the inside goss as to why we pulled out of the running for Hayne's signature?

Nick was quite public last year that he was keen on getting him to the Roosters.

So why did he change his mind?

Good question. I'd like to know if the truth is known

There was a rumour that he was not a team player at Parra. Apparently he trained by himself and was a pain in the arse.
This and the ridicule he started coping in the press I think put a few people off

Because nick has lost his knack of attracting the big names. hayne, sbw, moses, teddy, sheck, jennings, maloney, regardless if people say that so and so left because of family reasons,or more money, simple fact is the "if nick wants them, he will get/keep them" days seem to be a thing of the past.

I think he just popped up at an awkward time for us. Our depth got exposed quite significantly this year and I think the last thing we needed was to sacrifice another 3 first graders to sign 1 which in reality is probably what we would've had to do to fit in his $1m+ salary.

I think the timing of it all ruled out a lot of clubs, Titans were just in the right place at the time.

The NRL-owned Titans were able to offer him a ridiculous amount of money because they are doing their best to fatten the team up for sale.

I think what Kingbilly said has plenty to do with it. Hindmarsh has commented on that publicly a few times.
Add to that the money it would have cost (1.2mill yr) compared to his age and the amount of players we have to shed to afford him.
I'm all for paying Tedesco that type of money as he is younger.
I have no issue with the Club for not signing Hayne.

Maybe Nick heard him singing some of that rap "music" ?

I heard, long before Hayne quit the NFL, that the club had decided on Tedesco as a marquee and that the Hayne talk was just a ruse.

That's true but we all knew that before he went to the NFL and Nick was keen still at that time.

I hope this is closer to the truth.

Wasn't worth it for 4 games when we couldn't make the finals anyway.. Was supposed to happen early in the year if it was going to happen.. And now we don't need him any way.. Glad Latrell and Watson got the game time they did this season..

To be honest, I don't mind that we didn't sign him - Tedesco different case altogether.

We don't need to pay millions of dollars for hayne or tedesco Latrell will be better than both of them in a couple of years hes only a kid but look how many trys he scored this year in a beaten side impressive stats to say the least.
