Imagine if Politis decided to give Fitler the boot at the end of 2001 in favour of playing the up and coming young finch at 5/8. That is literally the level of stupid that this was.
Welcome to the chookpen, the spiritual home of hyperbole. In this thread maloney has been elevated to best 5/8 in the comp and is now the equivalent of fittler.

Maloney a decent 5/8th but way too much smoke being blown up his butt. Just waiting for someone to compare him to Freddy.

You will all forget about Maloney when you eventually realise Keary is better than him.

I think Danish deleted his post when he remembered the Bulldogs booted Thurston and stuck with Anasta.

Yeah we lost a good player, but I don't remember there being this much love for him in 2014 and 2015. I remember plenty of people having a go at him for missing tackles and giving away penalties though....

Maloney was pretty mud in 2014. Saved his best game for the infamous and surreal semi vs the Cows. Although from memory almost every player bar Pearce regressed that year.

But I felt he bounced back really well in 2015 and was one of out best.

Ash Taylor has been the buy of the year.

The Roosters scoring problems have nothing to do with Maloney leaving.

Not even close to the same.

The dogs moved Thurston on for very widely known behavioural issues. If Thurston had stayed in Sydney, his career path would have looked very similar to Todd Carney's.

His only chance of success was to go to a club where his many MANY off field incidents could be easily swept under the rug by a friendly local media who also happened to own the team

Maloney is quite easily the best 5/8 in the comp. who would you say is his competition? Blake Austin is the only compatible player but he is still raw.

And I didn't say at all that Maloney was as good as Freddy. I said letting him go for Hastings was as stupid as it would have been to let go of Freddy for Finch. There is a world of difference, not the least of all being that as bad as finch may have been at times Hastings couldn't lace his boot straps

II'm glad you mentioned this. I'm not one to trawl through old posts, but I remember there were a lot of posters ragging on him last year. I had no idea why. It was clear he created all our attack, even when he was a little down on form. How people failed to see that I have no idea. I posted as much last year and a few others stood up for him.

We've been vindicated this year, I guess. But what a hollow victory.

Yeah punting the guy who scored or set up 56% of our points in 2015, 53% in 2014, and 55% of our points in 2013 would absolutely have no effect on our attack....

Week in, week out, club NRL he's probably the best 5/8 of the year. I'll stand by that.
