  • Mitchell in Emerging Origin Squad

Latrell Mitchell has been named in the Blues 2017 Emerging Origin Squad.

Great for the young man. The more experience he gets at things like this, the more it improves him as a player and the better for us.

    Congrats Latrell.

My highlight of 2016 was watching the intensity and passion he brought to every game in a losing team.

You can't coach heart, and he has stacks of it. Stacks of talent too.

Can't wait to see his continued development in 2017.....

The full NSW emerging Origin squad is:

    Shannon Boyd (Canberra Raiders)

    Reagan Campbell-Gillard (Penrith Panthers)

    Bryce Cartwright (Penrith Panthers)

    Nathan Cleary (Penrith Panthers)

    Ryan James (Gold Coast Titans)

    Joey Leilua (Canberra Raiders)

    Jordan McLean (Melbourne Storm)

    Latrell Mitchell (Sydney Roosters)

    Junior Paulo (Canberra Raiders)

    Nathan Peats (Gold Coast Titans)

    James Roberts (Brisbane Broncos)

Jake Trbojevic (Manly Warringah Sea Eagles)

Tom Trbojevic (Manly Warringah Sea Eagles)

Bad luck so far for Ryam Matterson as he was on Sterlos list
Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe

Mmm and he did alright at country/city Origin (an opportunity that will no longer exist after 2016?)

It's a competitive bunch so I guess it's hard to justify his includion when you've got Cleary, Peats, Roberts, Bodgovic and other relatively established NRL stars in there.

Awkward fit too... not quite big enough for the back row (but awesome ball playing skills), not quite fast enough for the centres and not quite skillful enough for the halves. Bit of a jack of all trades, master of none (Maubs style kinda?) Of course versatility is a virtue in itself (he won't look stupid in any of those roles whereas Cleary would look like a dope in the back row/centres... Roberts in the halves? LOLz). I really hope he finds his place because he's an awesome player!

        Matterson is huge.

Definitely big enough for the backrow if the likes of Guerra are.

          Ian Rubin was huge too.
Surely Matto is moving into the forwards.

The highest rap I can give Latrell is that I dont think Ive seen a player with more potential in our colours.

And theres been a few and Ive seen a few.

I hope they are grooming Matterson to fill the Maubs role, every team needs a Maubs.
i think Maubs re-signed for 3yrs recently? but i reckon he's only got 2 in his legs. Matterson will be hitting his straps in 2 yrs

Me too and you are dead right about this kid he could very well end up to be one of the best ever to pull on the jumper.14 trys in his first season in a beaten team.Whats he going to do in a roosters side thats going well? The scary thing is that hes still a kid learning the game.Im tipping he kills it next year.

Damn 193cm!!! I eat my humble pie...

Shows how many Roosters games I went to this year (1... in Canberra). Not a boycott BTW, we were just super busy with our new baby (who went to the game in Canberra and got his first taste of defeat).

Good call mate... I'm trying to imagine what Mini coulda done if he was 193cm and built like Latrell. Combine that body with a season where the Roosters 'win more than their share' then I reckon he'll shyt3 on guys like Bodgy Tom, Slothfield's coke buddy, Dopey Boyd, Coota left NQ, chalk bones the Tiger and Gus' golden boy (who never seems to impress anybody). Natural footballer... after 2016 I'm already pumped to see what lies ahead in 2017. Bet we make the top 4!

Agreed. Mitchell was one of the few highlights last year. What he might do in a winning team is scary. I hope injuries are kind to him.

I still think it is a little early to have Cleary and Mitchell in the ermerging Blues squad. Considering they haven't had to deal with the second season syndrome yet. However well done to both of them.
