In a massive boost for Sydney Roosters Members and supporters, the Club is thrilled to announce that Dylan Napa has signed a two-year extension, keeping him at the Roosters until at least the end of 2019.
“I’ve been at the Roosters since I was 17. I came here as a kid and this is where I have developed as a football player, but more importantly as a person, so I’m happy with how it’s all worked out and to agree to a new two-year extension,” said Napa.
“My football has progressed over the years with the Roosters, and the Club is heading in an exciting direction, so I’m happy to know that I’ll continue to be a part of it,” he added.
24 year-old Napa’s development continued throughout the 2016 season, with the Roosters enforcer cementing his position in the Roosters starting 17. He played all bar one game and was selected in the Prime Minister’s XIII.
“Dylan has been in the Roosters system for a number of years now, and we are pleased to have retained his services, despite interest from other clubs,” said Roosters CEO John Lee.
Roosters Head Coach, Trent Robinson, added: “Dylan is a fierce competitor and a highly-valued contributor to our team.
“Dylan holds himself accountable and has worked hard to cement his position as a leader in our pack, and I’m looking forward to watching his development in the coming seasons,” he added.
Napa made his NRL debut with the Roosters against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in Round 15 of the 2013 season and has played 81 NRL games to date.
He has represented the Prime Minister’s XIII against Papua New Guinea on two occasions (2014, 2016) and has played three Tests for the Cook Islands (2013 Rugby League World Cup).
The new agreement comes at an exciting time for the Roosters, with the Club also securing contract extensions with players including Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, Sio Siua Taukeiaho, Joseph Manu and Connor Watson in the recent months.

THE Sydney Roosters have been given a massive boost heading into the 2017 season by staving off a host of rivals to sign fiery prop Dylan Napa until the end of 2019.

Newcastle, Brisbane and North Queensland tried to steal Napa from the Roosters but the prop — who is on the verge of Queensland and Australian selection — opted to remain at the club.
“I’ve been at the Roosters since I was 17,” Napa said. “I came here as a kid and this is where I have developed as a football player, but more importantly as a person, so I’m happy with how it’s all worked out and to agree to a new two-year extension.

Roosters coach Trent Robinson described Napa as a “fierce competitor and a highly-valued member of our team”.
“Dylan holds himself accountable and has worked hard to cement his position as a leader in our pack, and I’m looking forward to watching his development in the coming seasons.”

Awesome news, thought he took a big leap in his development last season going from a benchie to a starter, really upped his yardage game and much stronger on carries. Showed he had the endurance to play long minutes too which is a handy sign given the NRL's intent to continue reducing the interchange count.

I thought he also showed signs of some real leadership qualities when the chips were down and he was playing in a really inexperienced pack.

A very impressive season for a prop who went into it with only 50 odd games under his belt. Very excited to see where he can take his game over the next 3 years.

Good news providing he aims up this season, lived on a couple of tackles to date, needs to take his game to the next level from here on, lets hope he can do it.

Interesting listening to one of the NRL coaches (can't remember which one it was now) on Big Sports Breakfast a couple of weeks back saying that with the new concussion rules the reduction in interchange has had very little effect on your need for extra stamina reserves because of the free interchanges teams are getting

I like Naps but he only played 1 game last year to the standard that I like.
This is only a guess but I think he would be on around $1.4M over the next 2 seasons so I hope he can get consistently near the form he was in that day against Souths last year.

I think people are being harsh on Napa. How many 23 year old props dominate an entire season, especially in the absense of senior players for large stretches?

He displayed a great work rate last season and really improved his yardage game with his hit ups. I'm sure there were games where he was playing 80 minutes!

If anything I think the way he responded to the leadership role last year will only see him become one of the games premier props in 2017.

If JWH and Napa stay injury free then they'll be the best front row pair in the competition.
