  • The (endless) salary cap (for some teams)

The Warriors today just signed Tohu Harris to a massive deal from next year.

This is a club that has signed RTS, Luke and Foran all to massive multi million dollar contracts over the past 18-24 months.

And they'll probably re-sign Johnson to a multi million dollar deal too.

And then there's the Panthers who have bought every second off contract player over the past few years. Merrin and Tamou to huge deals. And no issue re-signing Moylan and Cartwright to massive deals. And yet Gus was sneakily in the hunt for Ben Hunt too!

The point being is that if these clubs, just to name two, can afford so many huge deals then I'd expect us to not only re-sign all our off contract stars but also be in the running for a couple of big names too.

Is the cap really that big now? Or are some clubs delivering a few brown paper bags under the table...

Not specifically related, but the warriors making Roger captain I thought was a bit strange

      Very strange.

But then Kearney is a very shitty coach so I suppose that explains it.

Not overly surprising though when you consider his level of professionalism across all facets.

To a rabble like the Warriors he is probably what SBW was to us in 2013 - someone who sets the standards.

Tommy, every fan thinks every Club is breaching the Cap, except their own of course When you factor the Cap increase with Warriors being g the lone Club in NZ and therefore having a 'free for all' with 3rd party deals, I can easily see how they would do that.

I guarantee if we sign Tedesco every fan of every other Club will be screaming similar at us.

Haha yeah everyone is always pointing that finger at us.

I just look now at our roster and think that we've got perhaps 3 players on 750k deals ... Pearce, Cords and JWH.

Perhaps Napa joins that club next year.

And when you consider that the Warriors have four players on close to million dollar deals - RTS Foran Johnson Luke - plus Harris next year it makes me think that we can definitely afford Tedesco at least.

Personally I'd love to see us throw 1m+ at Taumalolo. That'd be a wet dream signing right there.

Tommy, I love Taumalolo and nearly beating us single handedly in a semi 2 years ago at the Roosterdome.Been a fan ever since.

But having said that I'm a massive fan of SST. Both similar players and the optimist in me says SST will before close to the player Taumalolo Is now and at a fraction of the asking price.

Yeah I think Taumalolo will never happen. Lock is one position we have covered.

I reckon Butcher will make the lock forward spot his own in a couple of years. Perhaps SST can shift to prop?

Otherwise he was a beast on the edge when we played the Warriors in NZ last year (or the year before).

Is the Warriors cap calculated in $Aus or $NZ ? If it's in $AUS, then they have an immediate advantage of around 5%, on top of any cost of living advantages in NZ, and of course all the 3rd party deals in the country.

We are (or were last year) the team with the least amount of established players signed from other clubs.

As for NZ, ...........................I don't think the nrl are too worried about scrutinising them , at least not until they gloriously provide their long suffering fans a maiden premiership.
When is their turn I wonder???

Even last year after we had lost all those players and we were going so bad I still had people say to me "you guys are rorting the cap" " how can you afford Keary" it's laughable the hatred and jealousy that comes our way.

The club lost Maloney, Jennings & RTS in the one off season... The season before was Mini, SBW & FPN (who was on decent coin). How could a team with that much high profile talent leaving be cheating the cap?

Sometimes we just have to accept that other clubs can work out how to keep or buy players like we used to be able to, since the Freddy signing in the mid 90s we have been very fortunate of who we were able to Aquire and keep throughout those years, losing Maloney,RTS, and Jennings in one hit, just doesn't happen at the chooks, either uncle Nik has lost his aura, or we may well have been in salary cap strife and we did not want to go down the storm path.

Gus is a very smart man, and he would of learnt a lot when he was with politis, good luck to him if he can get away with buying players either on or off the books, just don't become another parra, storm or dogs, that is the challenge.
