Sounds like we are desperately trying to offload Copley - salary cap problems???

Simona is being released because the Tigs just re-signed a teenage centre on a mamoth contract (reportedly the biggest in the history of the game). The only way this would work for them as a swap deal would be if we are paying Simona's full contract plus possibly even a little of Copley's.

Signing a centre would definitely throw a spanner in the works but if Simona came here he would be the best centre at the club the interesting question would obviously be does Fergo shift to the wing or Latrell to fullback. Simona has played both right and left centre and played well on both sides.

The rumour makes a lot of sense because we need some spark and the Tigs need some more solidarity and a short term solution until their million dollar teenager comes good.

Kind of alluded to it in the thread re culling. Every year our approach seems to be one of over-shop, let the marginal players compete for spots, then trade surplus/who's in demand as the season approaches.

Suppose often in a better position to trade with the cards in your deck rather than be left in a situation like Newcastle where players make career ding decisions

Because I have no idea what Copley or Simona are on I cant work it out other than the Tigers think Copley is better & the Roosters think that Simona is better so they have maybe decided to swap
Surely you dont let Jennings go & pay half of his contract at his new club then go & buy Copley & unload him paying some of his contract at a new club?

Tim Simona is off contract in2017 and Dale Copley comes off the books at the end of 2018. I am also sure his contract also slightly increases per year.

This deal enables Easts to get Copley off the books for 2018 and have flexibility. Also take on Simona for 1 year which is a low/risk high reward signing.

I'd be willing to pay for Copley and Simona for 2017 if we dont take on DCs salary for 2018. He has been average.
