  • Dr Watson and Sherlock

Loved that try he set up for Lewis in the final it smelled of Andrew Johns coaching ..actually all day .Thats a play Johns always put on and its in the same style of try Johns put on in the GF against Manly .
Watson will bide his time and grow in the next two years...I hope gonna be a match winner.

You mean the one in the semi?

If so it was absolutely brilliant. I wonder if he had a word in Carl Lewis ear before the kick off and told him to to be ready for it.

It was a beautifully orchestrated set play. Watson set up both tries in the GF too so he certainly showed plenty of playmakers instincts.

He still looks to me like he'd make a deadly fullback. I wonder if Robbo has considered that possibility?

Yep, I wouldn't be surprised if while the kickoff was in the air he was shouting to Lewis to stay hard out on the wing. You could see his mind ticking over. As soon as he caught the ball his sole aim was to angle his run infield to get the Storm winger to come in. Worked beautifully and the rest is history. Watson is one smart footballer.

Watson setting up Odell Beckham Jr, was probably the moment of the tournament.

Also imagine if Valentine Holmes and Watson played together.

Manu looks to have the makings of a good fullback as well.

he is a terrific young prospect and will continue to improve rapidly in many facets of his game.

A lot of experts on this site were saying last year that the guy has no passing game whatsoever, many people on here expected him to be shooting freddy fittler spiral cut-out passes in his first handful of games in the top grade.

Basically said the same in the 9s post. what has become apparent to me is how Robbo is slowly changing the team in as such as going for versatility rather than specialist positional players hopefully this approach works however I still think we lack some speed from the 2016 squad - Watson and Mitchell the exceptions yet if Robbo continues on the youth policy adopted by him and management then I hope it comes to fruition via dropping non performing players otherwise the youth policy will not work within the versaltity approach. Abundance of young talent that appear level headed. Watson typifies this and has a winning mentality as his achievements to date since his Knox Grammar scholarship tell the story.

Im really warming to the idea of starting the year with Watson at FB, I feel he would be as good as RTS.
Who plays wing I dunno know but I would love to see the Roosters surprise everyone & have Watson at FB. He has that Ben Barba x factor about him.

I agree that Watson has the potential to make an excellent fullback. Very reminiscent of Barba indeed, except even quicker. His acceleration in tight spaces and over short distances is blinding.

He wouldn't have the kick returns of RTS so he'd be similar to Barba there too who doesn't make many metres on returns at all. But thats ok because like the Sharks the wingers and centres could make up the slack.

There's the small matter of defence at fullback which is pretty crucial.

I'm certain that Gordon will start the year at fullback but if he gets injured and Latrell is killing it at centre then it'll be interesting to see if Robbo considers Watson for the no.1 jersey.
