  • Yesterday's trial games - NRL

With Pearce, Cordner and Takukeiaho missing against a full strength Many side we struggled a little especially with our kicking game. Pearce was badly missed but Keary played very well and will certainly add a lot of trust to this side. Gordon was safe and his positional play at the back was excellent. I believe that the competition will be extremely close with many games being decided by a few points. It is vital that we have Gordon and Taukeiaho in the side for their goal kicking. We also need to be patient, control the ball and not given away silly penalties. Injuries will as usual play a key part. Our defence was in the main very good. Pushing passes let us down badly again. Ball control is so important but this message does not seem to get through this team. Paul Carter was strong and energetic and I would have him in the starting side in place of Guerra. Napa needs to start instead of Liu. Blake Green, Taupau and the Trbojevic brothers were outstanding for Manly as was their rushing defence. They will certainly improve on their position from last year.

    Thanks Nonester.

I was there too and my two bobs worth.

We were pretty scratchy overall mixed with a few flashes of brilliance to get us back in the game.

Very little ball early and I think it was around the 14th min before we even had the ball in their half...partially due to poor kicks and an error.

Keary struggles with the longer kicking game but is a tiger ish defender for such a small guy. He will be ok with Pearce back.

Good strike out wide if we get them clean ball with Fergo and Lattrell...will cause defences plenty of headaches this year.

Gordon a real tradesmen. Very safe and smart positioning deadly kicker as we know. I'd prefer Latrell at fullback but credit where it's due to Gordon.

As well as missing Cords and Pearce, some of our main forwards like JWH and Isaac seemed to get a lot of bench time. So we weren't at our top in many ways.

And no Pearce...like him or not for our 2017 squad we are a bit rudderless without him.

Manly will cause some upsets this year. Tough and big.

Not the best hitout to wind up the preseason but im sure Robbo is in control.

P.S 25 bucks to see a trial game is crazy.

I must admit it erks me that the Roosters charge an admission fee to watch a trial game.
If you are a member like you & you trek up to Gosford you should just have to show your members card & be given free admission a hotdog & a soft drink.

Too true Mickie...pretty ordinary that you pay same/more to see a trial than a comp game.

Wasnt a bad crowd really considering the terrible weather...even some Manly types made the trek.

10 minutes to go...we were leading.
We got a penalty....possession of the ball.
So what did we do? did one of our "let;s throw a wild pass and cough up the ball" plays....gave the ball to Manly.
            We lost...Manly won.

my guess is the stadium fixed the price of admittance. being involved in football clubs a nice little cash injection to start the season of is a good thing. $25 is not
