There are well documented problems at the Roosters, Smith must be bristling at the thought of being told he will be given an assistant coach chosen by Politis, P.G. you say Ability will cut Elliott' career short, Smith has failed us badly, I feel Smith's career with us will be cut short. From what I understand Smith has divided the team into two warring factions, if true, it sounds the death knell for him. If Politis wanted Smith and E lliott coaching together, Elliott would be with us now.

There is no question about that.. Elliott has not been signed to be assistant coach for the next 2 years.

People seem to forget Gould's failures...
Under his coaching we never... I repeat NEVER made a GF!!! How is Smith the nice guy who has done nothing with Gus as the champ when the stats say Smith has already been more successful than Gould! Magically after Gus left we started making GFs. Despite popular believe, Gus had no part in that.

We gave Gus a lifeline!! He was failing with the Riff and acting disgracefully (he was ejected from his seat by Harrigan at least once.)

During the Super League BS Gus lost the Origin 3-0 although he clearly had the stronger side and QLD patched together a rubbish side.

        ---

Gus knows more about footy than most fans (by default... it has been his life) but he hasn't been THAT successful, and definitely wasn't successful when coaching us. We had a dream team and he still failed to even make the GF!!!

Still he's at 61% success. If Smithy loses on Monday night...sorry, when Smithy loses on Monday night, he'll be down to 48.73 or some such below par number.

We did not have a "dream team" when Gus came to the club in 95, however by the time he left the head coaching role in 99 (don't forget the Super League war took place right in the middle of his tenure) he had built something really special.

Lets not forget Mr.Gould had the great Freddy Fittler as his 5/8th,a luxury Smith has never had.
Adding to that,Lam,Walker,Gourley,Barnhill,Sing,Elsegood,Cle ary,Barnett,RickoFletcher and so on and so on..
Gould built a great side and still failed to get his team into a Grand Final..
              People seem to forget

A difficult claim as success is usually defined by premierships which Gould has 2 let alone the fact he is NSW's most successful origin coach... However I agree that Gould is yesterday's man.. An open cheque book could not get him into a Grand Final at the Roosters.. I am glad he is no longer associated with the club as I think Gus was always more about himself than the club.

I was talking about the Roosters. Gould grabbed 2 premierships at the start of his career (luck?) then failed to make the GF with any other team...

Regarding form coaching the chooks... Smith has made us runners up once (with a wooden spoon squad.) With all the talent we had, Gus NEVER got us to a GF. Consequently Smith has gotten better results for the Roosters than Gus...

Gus had 2 good results... 1 with the Dogs (our enemies?) and 1 with the Riff. The only thing I credit him with doing is bringing Freddie to the Chooks and looking after Andrew Walker. I reckon he's EXACTLY like Alan Jones though! Big loud mouthed know it all who has favourite players and neglects the rest. People remember his success, but not his failures.

Not saying Smith is necessarily better (Gus regularly got us into the 8) but Gus isn't that made genius people credit him as being IMO. He's just a big loudmouth who had a bit of luck coaching (Dogs, Penrith then NSW with freddie and joey, with absolutely no success in between.)

This no luck in between includes losing 3-0 in a rigged Origin series where Fatty Vautin coached a bunch of QLD part-time carpenters to a victory over a star studded NSW lineup. If he's such a perfect coach then:
                  - How the f___ did Fatty's boys win 3-0? (Is Fatty a better coach? Do we want to sign him?)
                  - Why didn't we ever make a GF with him as coach despite our star studded lineup that won the GF and made a bunch of other GFs a few years later with an incompetent coach who was new to the job?

I refuse to see Gus as a guy who is a psycho but gets things done. Hi is:
                  - A big headed psycho.
                  - A successful Origin coach (but less successful than Mal Meninga FWIW... is Mal Meninga the best coach ever... Fatty Vautin? Both are clowns, but they win! Origin's more to do with the players than the coach IMO.)
                  - A mildly successful NRL coach who got 2 premierships early on in his career but after his 2nd one never made a GF again in what... 10 years? The Riff sacked him because he was a psycho and they were sitting down the bottom. We took him and he fell in love with Andrew Walker and Freddie, but forgot about the rest of the boys. We won a GF 2 years after he left with a VERY similar lineup, which again... were consistently runners up WITHOUT Gus.

We seem to remember losing grand finals, but not failing to even get there, as if being runners up is worse than simply being a bunch of chumps who didn't make the GF.

SOO coaching is not about coaching at all, bad example from all.
SOO coaching is about motivation, nothing more. This is proven by Meninga being a very sucessful SOO coach, the man is an imbecile when it comes to RL coaching, but a good motivator

A coach needs to be able to motivate.. Gould had a winning record against Bennett in origin? Does that make Gould a better motivator?
