I see it as good news because it means that at least something will be different from this year to next year. If the coaching staff around Smith was the problem then maybe Elliott can bring the right things to the side.

Worse still ponder this.
If Smith walks for whatever reason or if he gets his marching orders before his 4yr contract ends in 2013, would Elliott automatically be the walk-up start as head coach?? Is this a strategic appointment? If so, is Elliott the way ahead?
Elliott cant coach so why would he be any good as an asistant coach?
Michael Hagan couldn't coach but he's doing wonders for QLD, in fact he gets a lot of credit from the QLD camp for what they've achieved.
I think Elliot will have a great effect on Pearcey & our forwards, he's an old fashioned coach and a contrast to Smithy. I think his greatest downfall as a coach was he's too nice, becomes largely irrelevant as an assistant. I don't have any issues with the appointment, an Easts man to boot.

Not a fan of giving the coaches too much success for the Qld run. I could have coached that team to 5 straight.
he had no success with canberra and even less with penrith
this is ridiculous
If you have a look at what he would bring to the coaching staff in comparison to Costin (or most other Assistance Coaches), then its a good decision.
Three of our biggest problems this year have been (1) Carney's headspace (2) Smiths man management skills (apparently) and (3) the inadequacy of the coaching support staff. Elliott could benefit all of these.
I also hope they get a new head trainer - which has been another of our problems. Regardless of how we are trying to pay for it, the fact that we are trying to buy new 'high performance' kit, indicates that the teams fitness has also been identified as a problem.
We need discipline and professionalism. The first thing Gould did at the Panthers after Elliot left was to bring these aspects in. This is my concern with the Elliot appointment.
